Hmm - why is that power supply so big?

Well, because the computer that it powers is a beast .

Dell Precision M6700. No flimsy consumer-grade or general purpose office notebook here. Core i7, 32GB RAM, 17” 1920x1080 display, K4000 discrete graphics and more ports than I know what to do with. No HD, but I’ve got spare SSDs, and this thing can hold a bunch of them.

I think I can sell just about all of my other notebooks and easily recover the $150 I spent on this monster. I might hang onto the MacBook Pro that I picked up a few months back, but I’m not sure why...

I’ve got a 17" dell M4800 sitting on a table that I haven’t used in over a year. Kinda sad.

I’ve got a local recycling outfit that sells computers and parts at amazing prices. I get a few bucks for my old scrap and then turn around and buy more computers. I picked up that 8-core/16 -thread 64GB Xeon workstation there a couple of years ago for about the same price. These machines  are workhorses - not great for gaming, but solid, stable beasts that’ll go for years and years.

How old is the MBP?

Old. I think it’s a 2011 model. It has an i5, but can’t run the newest OS versions; I think 10.13 is the best it can do . The screen is 13”, and it’s not a Retina display. Nothing to get excited about unless you like ancient computers.

It’s newer than my 2008 MBP.

I used a 2009 until recently. It was a restoration project that started as a beat-to-hell  $5 Goodwill purchase. The 2011 came from the original owner, complete with box and is damn near perfect for an old computer. It probably never left their house.
