It's funny how people seem to compare Porsche to Ferrari

Porsche and Ferrari’s lineups barely touch, but Porsche and Maserati are matching each other, almost car for car.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

It’s a shame that Alfa doesn’t have the money to develop a full lineup, to battle Audi, because the few cars they do sell, are great. Oh well, maybe with the economies of scale made from the PSA tieup, they will get more money.

I was just in Austin for a couple days last week. When your home costs $1M+, it must not seem like much to drop $100k+ on your car.

Interesting point; the Ferrari thing never made sense to me either but good on them that certain of Porsche’s top models can punch in that weight class against some Ferraris. That Porsche v. Maserati reliability though.

Yeah, but if you could get your Maserati SUV to start from 50k instead of 75k, it’s still good. The problem is that the Stelvio starts at 42k, and I’m not sure the 8k will stop many potential buyers from getting the newer model.

It also looks a bit better, IMO, and comes with a Maserati badge. But Alfa has its fans.

The real difference being that a Porsche, any Porsche, can and will be your daily driver day in and day out. A Maserati ? Not so much ...

Porsche is kind of an “all purpose” brand. For sometime they sold the Cayenne with a low range gearbox! So, in that sense, it’s inevitable that it gets compared to a bunch of rivals... be it Ferrari, Land Rover, BMW, and I guess that Maserati too. Mostly because they make SUVs, and pretty much every performance manufacturer is making SUVs now. As much as the 911 is a GT; it’s a lot more focused than other GTs that the Grand Turismo would compete with more realistically, think perhaps of the Mercedes E or S class coupe, the BMW 8er. Perhaps the F type is a bit more comparable to the 911

My thing with Maserati is that it’s sort of an abstract brand because it has been... let’s say teetering... for decades as a weird sort of Italian brand that never quite could live up to Ferrari but never had the broad appeal of Alfa Romeo. Porsche on the other hand has been a successful brand for decades, and it has gone all over the market to find their niche. So maybe that’s why I’m not seeing the connection.

Then, well, the 911 does sort of punch into the F8 category in Turbo guise   and competes with the Portofino and the Roma when it comes to “GT-ing” granted, the Roma and the Portofino are more  sedate cars, much like the Grand Turismo.

Side note: my 2014 Cayenne GTS can reach 10.2 inches of ground clearance using its air suspension—the same as my Jeep Wrangler. I grimace taking the GTS down dirt  roads, but you have to appreciate that Porsche thought the thing should pull 0.95 on the skidpad *and* come with a standard locking differential.

The GranTurismo is long in the tooth and even the fastest version is slower than the slowest 911. The MC20 is so far below the 918 in performance as to make them incomparable. The Ghibli is a bland and poorly built sedan, it’s got nothing on the Taycan which is almost a vision of the future. The QP is about as bad as the Ghibli and probably not as quick as a well specced Pana

Also Porsche sells 20x the cars. The message here is that Maserati is shit, and the reason people don’t compare them to Porsche is because there is no comparison.
