I am predisposed to want to modify cars. I love them, but I also love improving upon and customizing them.
This, inherently, makes leasing a car a non-starter, and (given my economic standing) buying a new car outright AND being able to afford to modify it is a no-go also.
Thusly: my love of the automobile and my inability to support the new ones while simultaneously catering to my love of automobiles means that I exist in direct conflict of being able to use my dollars to support the types of automobiles I want to see produced.

And I’m pretty sure
I’m not alone.

Do what I do, get your friends to buy cars and mod theirs!

Buy used and boost it to pieces.

A lot of people can’t afford a new car.
Also you can modify a lease, so long as you put it back to stock when the lease is due. Wheels , coil-over suspension, catback exhaust. Just keep all the parts you take off, switch them when the lease is done, and sell the aftermarket parts on Craigslist or Facebook to recover partial costs.

“A lot of people can’t afford a new car” — agreed! And that is part of the crux of what I was trying to get at. We may want to see auto manufacturers producing certain things, but if we can’t afford the things they are producing (let alone also mod them for an inevitable loss later), we are stuck to watch the auto industry change while having no real stake in the game.

Having owned 18 cars in my 37 years, that’s just a level of commitment I can’t afford. ;)

Buying used has definitely been the name of the game!

I’ll probably never be able to afford new so I’ll just go used.

It’s a race between me buying my 6th and me turning 50.

Always wondered how modifying a leased car works, especially if it’s been tuned. Seen and raced against all sorts of leased cars at the drag strip with bolt-ons and a tune.
