This one caught me by surprise: a JDM RHD Cherokee.

(Is “JDM” an accurate label for something built in the U.S. for import to Japan? I’m skeptical. )

Kinja'd!!!

I admit I thought perhaps they were pawnin g off a USPS RHD Cherokee as an import, but...

Kinja'd!!!

That door plate is...not in English

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I definitely dig the two-tone look, but thankfully for Tristan, it’s way too expensive to be a remotely  rational purchase.

If a vehicle, regardless of origin, is intended to be sold in Japan and was sold in Japan new, I think it’s fine to call it JDM.

And by fine, I also mean technically correct.

I suppose. It’s just as someone who only recently discovered the term “JDM”, it seems that if all that’s required is for something to be targeted at Japan to earn the label, what’s the point? We don’t talk about “UKDM” or “RDM”.

Jeep actually did fairly well in Japan in the 90's, iirc, and are currently the largest selling American brand in the country by a HUGE margin.

Well I own two vehicles built IN Japan, but were built to be sold in North America, as such they are not JDM.

JDM is a thing because they got a lot models that were never sold stateside and therefore are a revered, a lot like hooking up with a high school crush 25 years too late.

There’s more where that came from:

Wrangler

I’m kinda digging the Wrangler.  Unfortunately both the teal Cherokee and the Wrangler appear to have been repainted.

I don’t mind the paint but I’d definitely want a repaint to reflect the mileage. And wheels and trim. CP before the paint and such.

In 2018 Jeep sold over 13,300 vehicles in Japan. Ford, GM, and the rest of Fiat Chrysler COMBINED sold 1,800.

Iaccoca once attributed Jeep's popularity there as a result of exposure to the Jeep during the US occupation after WWII. It's kinda morbid but it tracks.

I don’t care: that teal (turquoise? aquamarine?) is stunning.

I’ve never been an originalist...except don’t screw with the Jeep  grille.

“JDM” has definitely gotten the most attention by most, but things like CDM have come up regularly in discussions I’ve seen about trying to pick up some Canadian-market specific cars / parts.

Also of note, something like a USDM Kia Stinger is ...USDM.

And Mitsubishi made Jeeps, not sure if that had any influence. There are a few in my wife’s home town.

I’m not into RHD or JDM, but I appreciate the thought. I just need to find me a nice, cozy local Jeep to settle down with.

In other news, speculators are suggesting there is money to be made selling American manufactured icebergs to the Inuit...
