It would concern me if the solar people turned up to my house in a 25yo Camry. Isn’t this supposed to be a booming, lucrative industry?

I had Tesla install my solar panels and Powerwalls back in October 2019. It was a great experience; very simple and streamlined. I highly recommend giving them a chance.

I don’t think it would bother me at all, actually. A well-kept 25 year old car is a sign that someone knows how to take care of things, and that’s who I want working on my stuff.

It’s a perfectly cromulent car. A friend of mine sells solar panels and he’s got a MK4 tdi golf. You want flashy, or conservative and competent. In my experience the contractor with the beat up truck is more competent than the guy in the shiny fancy truck.

Not necessarily, they're the local sales people, not the CEO, probably work on straight commission, or nearly, have to drive a personal vehicle, and put ungodly mileage on it. Plus, a lot of solar panel installation companies do kind of give off a bit of a shoestring budget/fly-by-night image. There's a couple of reputable, national companies with good name recognition, but a lot of smaller ones that operate out of self storage units and tables at flea markets.

If a contractor shows up in a flashy car, I would thing he overcharges and he would not convince me to go with that contractor.
