Shouldn’t be too hard, though this was one of a kind.

I’m guessing it’s that sleek and fancy looking B-17 with the alternate engines.

This that B17 with the Allison V12s?

If it was a P, it would be a fighter with the same engines.

Yup. XB-38.
Gorgeous. With that polished aluminum, it looks like something from The Phantom Menace.

Close. XB-38, a B-17 with Allison V-12s.

It looks like the intake was on the outside of the head and had a hot-vee exhaust. Is that correct?

My knowledge of the Allison V-12 is as extensive as knowing that it had 12 cylinders. So I have no idea.

Nice pics, is the wingspan longer on the XB?

Same, 104 ft

I guessed allison v12’s but didnt know the plane. Forgot about that one.

They would have to be Allisons, since the V-1710 was the only liquid-cooled V aero engine the US produced in WWII.

I only see two engines

Fair point. But if those were the only two, they’d be flying in some pretty tight left turns.

Allisons look good on pretty much anything
