...I don’t have photos yet.
I get the watch delivered next week.
I found the watch online and I’m not 100% sure that I’ll keep it since the case diameter and thickness are a bit more than I’d normally go for, which is around 40mm diameter and 10-12mm thickness.
Bascially, my quartz Timex stopped working - the battery is fresh and the Indiglo backlight works, but it no longer ticks at all. Not sure if it can be fixed or if it’s worth fixing.
My two other quartz watches have dead batteries (or may have died altogether) , but are also knockoffs: a Chanel J12 and a Cartier something.
That leaves me with two automatics which I don’t always wear, a blue Patek Fauxlippe which I love because of it’s thin profile and works well with suits/dress shirts, and a Tissot Le Locle which I love and don’t wear daily mainly because it’s special to me. It’s the first watch I bought with my own money, bought in Paris, and always brings back good memories.
So, I ended up looking for a quartz watch that can go a while without being worn and that I won’t need to set the time on. However, it ain’t just a regular quartz watch, it’s a solar watch with world time and Bluetooth. It’s not a true smartwatch, but the Bluetooth is for automatic time adjustments and other neat features.
It kind of goes against what I normally want in watches, which is a pure mechanical movement, fewer complications, and a simple face. However, I don’t and have never owned a chunky chronograph-type watch so this is probably as close as I’ll get. More to come next week when I actually get it:

I have a couple of cheaper casios but a lways wanted an E difice but found the price a tad too steep for me personally . More surprising is that now you can find examples of their G shock line for $400+. I didn’t know that series had gone so upmarket.

Yeah, I think a lot of Edifice MSRPs can be quite high but deals can be found. The same watch on Casio USA has a price of 220 USD but I bought mine for the equivalent of about 140 USD after taxes. Whether it’s worth it is to be determined but for the feature set it seemed reasonable to me.
After reading your reply I searched for G-Shock and it’s nuts how expensive those are. I had always thought that they were affordable , utilitarian watches rather than a premium item but I guess the cachet or some shit makes them a fashion accessory now. Personally, I am not a fan of the really chunky designs, but I do love some of the slimmer ones like this G-Shock which happens to be 700 Canuck rubles :

Wow. Try as I might, I can’t escape the idea from my childhood that Casios are cheap and only a step above disposable. I can’t get over the idea of a $300+ Casio.

I think of those plastic, square watches that you can still buy on Amazon for dirt cheap. It’s funny to see the price gap betwen low and high end Casio, perhaps funnier that Casio has a high end at all.

I just checked. You can still order a $30 classic on the Casio website. It even looks just like the ones you could bu y in 1982.

It’s a far cry from the Edifice I originally posted, but there’s something so endearing about it. It does what it’s supposed to do reliably and affordably, and I’d say there are much more expensive, much worse looking watches. It’s not flashy, but it’s not supposed to be flashy. Heck, it’s a bargain for 16 bucks, and 10 bucks more gets you the same stuff in stainless steel.
