If you feed this Lancia, it will just bring its Jalopy friends around and you will never be free of it. Now’s the time to act!

But you really bought a Lancia? Congratulations but I hope you have a resilient wallet!

YES YES YES. Welcome to the Lancia Owner’s Consortium of Oppo (LOCO) . We have...broken Italian cars. Did you buy this off Craigslist in CA?

Well, you can’t turn it away now.  But make sure you get it fixed ASAP.

I can now vicariously enjoy this car from afar through someone who actually FITS in it.

LS swap it. Defeat the inner Italian.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I originally thought it would keep the X1/9 company, but now I’m worried they’ll start to conspire with the Alfas against me. I think I hear them whispering to each other in Italian... something about “Red Brigades” and “Aldo Moro’ing Me...”  Whatever happens, I’m sure it involves an industrial work stoppage and personal pain for me.

In some ways, it was much, much better than presented.  Parts all there, plus extras.  A new, ‘built’ Twin-Cam, even the parts for the glass sail panels.  No rust at all.

There’s a fresh rebuilt Twin-Cam in there.  I figure the First Step is to get that running before I get too worried about “the usual stuff”... brakes are dragging, shift linkage feels like a mop in a bucket of rocks.  And, the paint needs a do-over...

I wouldn’t assume TOO much there... I’ve never been in a car with the pedals in such close proximity to each other. It’s tight. Really tight. Plus you are seated at that strange angle. All part of the Italian charm, I suppose.

And, matching spare!  It really was ALL there...

Wish I could say I had one... It’s got a rebuilt Twin-Spark which has never been started, so I suppose I’ll begin there. All the usual bits need attention, then, before I worry about more power.

Brakes will need to be sorted fast, as well. Shift linkage. Hook instruments back up.

Maybe something bigger, with Italian roots, someday.  All the AIR stuff is stripped anyway, so Cali emissions is a non-starter with the 1975 date for CARB SMOG testing.

I was shocked when I realized how much larger the engine bay is than the X1/9 had. It’s huge. I’m sure an LS4 would fit but that would feel really, really wrong.

Intrigued by the Busso swaps I’ve seen, though. I can’t deny the appeal of that Italian V6 in there...

I was a little worried on the availability of that rare glass, so good thing it is included. So all you have to do is assemble someone else’s project car. Easy .

Will practically assemble itself.

The good news is that the Seller had lots of Lancia Owners materials, who I’m sure will be a wonderful help in getting it sorted.  Regrettably most of those contacts are from 1986...

I’m 6'1", with wide shoulders... but I pleasantly fit in it— although I think my head would hit the soft top roof, so it will be “open top” mostly on the road for me.

My main anxiety is around the fancy footwork that will be required to operate pedals. It’s bad enough on my MR2 and my feet aren’t even that big. As Hammond pointed out— your body is twisted in an odd way toward centerline and I have no idea how people do the pedal dance.

First things first, though.  I’d like to hear that Twin Cam purr through those header pipes.

It was weird yesterday— I clearly bought the damn thing on a lark— but I’d stop and stare at it from a new persepective and think “Wow, I’m getting a hint of 1970s Ferrari from that angle...”

It’s funny how “insubstantial” and “tinny” the upper structure is-- all folded sheet metal, and poor grade sheet metal at that.  HOWEVER, the structure for the engine mounts, lower suspension mounts and rear sub-frame members?  Very substantial...  I bet it was designed to take a lot more power than the 80 HP we got here in the US.
