Certainly there must be a more elegant solution than having the Apple Lightning cable plugged into a wadded-up USB cable that’s tucked into the glovebox, thus leaving the Lightning cable dangling out of the glovebox. Is there a way to replace one of the 12v outlets with a USB connection that I can hook into the head unit? Or just some other way to have a USB plug built in to the dash or hidden in the console similar to how the OEM does it now? Hard-wiring the radar dete ctor is on the list, too... Stupid wires...

Yeah, they make USB port dash inserts. Get this and you can cut a hole for for it anywhere and route it to the back of your head unit.

There’s even ones to add an Aux port

Yes when I leave the store I’ll snap a pic of what I did in my truck.
Edit: these things are all over Amazon, look for USB panel mount. This one I put in place of the factory line in jack. They do have round ones which can replace a lighter socket, you’ll have to pop out the socket to install it.

That’s what I do for the Studebaker and the K5, but the daily got a fawnceh CarPlay head unit for to make with the phone calls and Goo gull maps- plus the backup camera makes hooking up trailers an absolute dream.

I think that's only compatible with iPhone SE, 5 and 4.
