The silver lining I suppose is that t ropical Eruptions are decent global coolers.

Yep. The smallest, Inception-y- est volcano in the world (island in a lake on an island in a lake on an island ) just decided to go ka-blooey.

It would take a Tambora or Krakatoa to help us at this point, sadly.

And that would DEFINITELY end an entire nation or three.

One of my buddies is there right now. Everyone in Manila  seems to be less concerned than I feel is appropriate, but

To be fair the ash isn’t as thick in some places are they are in others, but believe me when I tell you that all of us here are freaking out. The last big eruption in the Philippines was just in the early 90's.

Not exactly encouraging a stat.

Yeah, its a year or two at most. And I  vaguely recall that the long term impact can raise temps actually but don’t quote me on that.

So giving myself a geography lesson on Google maps, Pinatubo is about 50 miles northwest of Manila and Taal is about 40 mikes south of Manila, and there are two more volcano’s in between, just west of Manila. It seems like a very unfortunate location to put the capital of your country.

Thanks for posting and leading me to learn.

Hey, not our fault. The Spanish Empire decided to hole up here without assessing the risk.

Anyway it’s not totally the end of the world for us but updates so far lead me to believe that the volcano isn’t going to pipe down this week. And damn my uni if they decide to push with enrollment and resumption of classes this week.
