You can open the door with the privacy card, that’s a little ironic.

Not with the deadbolt engaged.

It took me way too long to wrap my head around how some of those worked. Namely the two piece door striker chain thing.

The lesson to learn from this is to engage your deadbolts from the inside and to not leave anything valuable in your room.

I have another example of how shoddy construction is in hotels, and how the contractors cut corners. Below, you see part of a three-piece assembly to hold two rolls of toilet paper in my hotel room in Arkansas. The fixtures were so wobbly that they were essentially coming out of the wall. I tried to tighten them up with my tools (the allen keys Duck Duck Grey Duck gave me) , only to find that they hadn’t been anchored to the wall to start with. Someone merely screwed naked screws into the drywall. They pulled out with minimal effort. I mentioned this to the desk each of the four times I stayed in that room over the last month and a half. Let’s see what happens next time I pass through.

Would love to see some videos of a big, strong guy against some of these and a solid wood or steel door.

He’s done one on hotel room safes too.  They’re purely decorative.

I’ve never used them.  I did have my wallet stolen from a Holiday Inn one time, and I know for sure it was done by a cleaning person while I was in the lobby.  Taught me to never trust any security in someone else’s building.

It wouldn’t happen to be the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, would it?
