When you’re wealthy, you can do pretty much whatever you want. If you r family is all set, maybe you helped out some animal charities etc... Now you’re ready to buy your dream car. The only trouble is that your dream car is a brand new S4 wagon and you live in the United States.
This is where it ends for you and I. However this guy just said, “Ok I’ll buy a new Allroad AND a new S4 sedan, then find somebody to to make it so.”
I wonder what they did with the other “car” Allroad Sedan? Maybe they said in the listing but I didn’t read it all.

Why spend all this money, only put 5000 miles on it, and sell it? Sounds like he’s got an RS6 on the way, but still...
No way the final sale price will get close to the all-in cost of this project.

I understand it if you’ve got that kind of dough. T he project is more fun than the product sometimes . Definite RS6 order already placed, haha.
No fing way, haha. Particularly with all of the specialized body and interior parts straight from Audi.

its a really cool build, but i dont understand why someone would buy two new cars, spend all that time and money fusing them into one, drive it less than 6k miles then turn around and sell it

I’ve been hyper-analyzing late model Audis over the past few months and this guy should have just bought an SQ5, dropped it, and called it a day. I love wagons as much as anyone, and I applaud the customization, but IMHO the A4 Allroad is a bit of a letdown (tiny and tight inside). I’m starting to understand crossovers more now...at least the ones that are done correctly. Again, custom work is amazing but I really like it more when it creates something truly unique. Hard to do that today when almost everything is offered at once.
Allroad sedan would be interesting...like the rare non-wagon Outback!

I guess, but I’m damn sure going to drive and enjoy every car I own. One year and 5k miles isn’t enough.

Exactly. Only exception in this case is that he didn’t know until recently that the RS6 was coming stateside.

I feel the same way . However I was in love with my Ranger, it was a forever car. I could have bought the Alltrack without selling it...but I was “finished” with it.
I had a vision for it, I so very much enjoyed working on it and driving it as I did each thing that I wanted. Then all of the sudden I was out of things that I wanted to upgrade/change.
I had it for two years and put a little less than 10k on the clock, and sold it. I gave first dibs to my FIL because he loved it when I bought it and was overjoyed with it after I was finished with everything.
It has made me a little nervous about the other cars. The more comfortable I become working on my own cars, the faster I buy parts and install them.

Haha, I hope he gets an RS6! As cool as the RS6 is I’d be in a used Manuel R8 for that kind of coin

Interesting - the idea that finishing a car would actually make it less desirable... Makes sense if a good portion of your enjoyment of it are the improvement
projects themselves.

The Allroad fender flares when painted over do give it a bit of an RS vibe.

Haha yeah, I guess it depends on the car. I am definitely a “ project” guy. There are a lot of things in my life that I have left un-finished probably because I’m afraid to “let them go”. At least that’s what my therapist says.
Thefuck does she know though, haha.

The conversion was performed by the seller’s shop, Pacific German . . .
So the seller got a wild idea, and maybe used the car to promote the business, had some wholesale breaks, cheap labor, and maybe even tax write-offs. 5,000 miles later, see what it will fetch at auction.
. . . only to find that the $60,000 high bid does not meet reserve.
*Sad trombones*

and the auction just ended at 60k as reserve not met

I missed that detail. He may not have even wanted to actually sell it (probably not, base on the reserve)
. Pretty cheap advertising for his shop for $100!

There is no way around it, the owner is taking an absolute bath in the worst financial way. He had to know that going in. I can’t even guess what the reserve was. Guy had 100k worth of cars then paid someone at least half again as much to Frankenstein them together.

people in the comments were saying reserve was probably set at around 75k, but yeah even there hes losing big

For sure, the owner is taking a big loss on it.
$60k -65 k is entirely reasonable for what it is. Any more than that and you’d have to justify the price solely because you want something as close to an S4 Avant as possible. The A6 Allroad is arriving soon and starts at $67k, and if you’re willing to go used, Panamera Sport Turismo prices are getting slashed across the board, including the base V6 models.

He’s probably just selling it to recoup a bit of money, but mostly to clear garage space.

Keep reading below - I’m guessing free advertising was the objective the whole time.

It really is...but honestly for any more than $60k, I’d rather have a new A6 allroad.
