My morning commute this morning was slightly out of my norm. First was the damn deer crossing the road, which is unfortunately all too normal, and then there was the result of a deer that failed to make it. Roadkill is normal too, but sitting on the carcass was a big bald eagle feasting. It was both regal and disgusting. The turkeys that I saw later were just turkeys.

A perfect metaphor for America? :) Naw, I love baldies, even if they like to eat road kill and steal other bird’s catches. An imperfect hero.

That scene was a metaphor of the Cold War

When I lived out in the country we had a pair that nested in some of the trees. They were awesome. Where I am now we have hawks but no eagles that I’ve seen. My boss also suggested that it was a metaphor but we couldn’t decide which way the metaphor worked.

I once rolled up on some condors feasting on a dead coyote. I thought they were kids playing in the street from a distance. As I got closer I realized they were huge fucking birds.

It’s that common around here...we no longer notice the roadkill anymore.
Only lasts three days in the summer anyway and what’s left just blows away...

The Turkey is far more regal, according to Benjamin Franklin.

Back in September I was up in Alaska and had a chance to do some fishing. We were going for salmon since they were running at the time, but at one point I hooked a big, nasty rockfish. Well he must have been hungry because he bit my hook so hard it came out of his head! I tried to gingerly get it out, but I kind of knew he was a goner. I threw him back where he thrashed around for a minute before going belly up. Well about 5 minutes later a huge bald eagle swoops down and snatches up the dead rockfish about 10 feet in front of me! It was easily one of the most amazing things I’ve seen in nature!
