What would you like to know about it? This is a 2018 F-150 King Ranch with the 3.5L Ecoboost V6. I’m currently writing a review on it, but I’d like to answer questions you may have. What things would you like to know? Interior things? Exterior things? How it drives? Post your questions below.

Are the head lights any good? an XLT I rented had horrible lights.

Does it make you feel like the k ing of a ranch?
How’s the Ecoboost? I’ve heard they can get good fuel economy, but it’s so easy and addicting to get into boost that it doesn’t happen in reality.

Great, other than that and the road noise the XLT I rented was magnificent.
I must say, the F150 made me rethink all of my stereotypes of trucks.

Let’s put it this way:
My personal 2017 F-150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost gets 21-22mpg in the same mixed city and highway driving that my work 2016 F-150 with the 5.0 gets 14-15 mpg . The 5.0 is significantly slower to boot, despite making actually making more HP ad torque and making glorious noises up on ramps . All the power is up above 4k. It makes significantly less power across most of the rev range.
That said, if you go around playing drag racer, you’ll pay for it at the pump with the 2.7. Much like driving medium or heavy duty commercial trucks, you have to drive the torque curve and be strategic about when and how you’re spooling up the turbos to get the best efficiency out of the engine. If you drive it like a V-8, you’re not really getting the best out of the engine.

Is the King Ranch the best trim level (Raptor excluded)? I tend to think so.

The IIHS site gives the LED headlights a “poor” rating in the King Ranch trim level. They might look awesome, but don’t perform well in curves, and produce too much glare :

Let me flip this around on you. My latest rental is a 2020 F-150 Platinum. I wonder how it compares to the King Ranch. Is there anything you want to know about mine as a point of comparison?

The other key to Ecoboost fuel economy is cruise control on the highway. Driving with my right foot on the interstate will get a couple of mpg less than cruise. The seemingly smallest throttle input you possibly make with your foot ends up spooling the turbos more than they needed to be. The ecu does a way better job of it. These trucks also engine brake aggesively on down grades with the cruise set, which is especially nice when towing.

Why is it so big? Or, rather, with a hood line that comes up to my nipples, do you have problems seeing thing like parking poles, other cars, children, adults, aircraft carriers, or small moons?

My latest rental is an Ecoboost F-150. It got 19.something mpg on the way to Houston from Baton Rouge. It was fairly windy and I was keeping it at 70+ mph for most of the trip.

As far as I’m aware, really the only differences between the platinum, king ranch, and limited are really just the names and leather color. I of course could be wrong, but what’s the inside look like? Do you have black leather? Brown leather? Special badging?

Hows the gas mileage with the new 3.5L? I’m looking at the new Expedition, and this is the only other vehicle that gets the new engine.

Black leather on the fanciest seats I’ve ever put my butt on. The silly things will give you a massage. The only badging I’ve noticed is the Platinum moniker on the tailgate. It does have the nifty retractable side steps which have cracked my shins only once so far. I still haven’t figured out most of the settings (like how to auto-retract the mirrors and set up ease-of-entry). I’ll grab some photos after work and post them.

Does ecoboost still have major design flaw where failing waterpump will destroy complete engine due to cooloant and oil mixing?

IIRC the Platinum gets massage seats and the Raptor motor. But I want to know, how did you end up with that as a rental?

I’ve been renting cars from the same place for about two years. They usually give me a free upgrade since they know I’ll have it for at least a month. This was the only vehicle on the lot that was bigger than a full size that wasn’t already reserved.

I own a 2018 F150 King Ranch with the 3.5 eco boost engine and 10 speed transmission.
The major difference in the trim levels for the top 3, king ranch, limited, and Platinum is badging on the tail gate and the seats. The leather trim and seat color are significantly different, especially on the King Ranch. The motor, transmission, and interior are largely the s ame. Heated seats, massage seats, panoramic sunroof, USB ports, and information display are all the same. It’s your preference that determined what trim level you buy. The frame, motor, transmission, and body panel are all identical. I prefer leather interior, but not black, the dark and light brown in the King Ranch are more to my liking. Let’s not forget the cooling seat feature as well. These trim levels are loaded with options. But lets be honest, your paying premium money for these models. A XL with the 3.5L Ecoboost, 10 speed transmission, and maximum tow package can do the same job, just not in the same style. Enjoy the truck you have. That’s my motto. I use my King Ranch for towing a 26' cabin cruiser boat. It does a good job for a 1/2 ton pick up. My curiosity is how the frame will hold up in the Winters with salt and brine on the roads. The body panels will do well, but with out a frame under them, I can only surmise that time will tell. Good luck to all the Ford F150 owners, I'll be keeping an eye on the steel parts, to see how well Ford is really building the new trucks.

Photo dump as promised.
This was mostly highway miles.
There are small “ Platinum” badges on the seats, both front and rear.
The front seats are both heated and cooled and include massage. The retractable foot step is surprisingly useful, especially for my wife who is fairly short.
It does have the Ecoboost engine as someone else mentioned , but it is tuned to 370hp.

Those seats look flatter than Kansas. They don't LOOK comfortable. Is Ford still applying a thin sheet of leather to plywood and calling them "luxury seats?"

I haven’t tried the back seats, but I find the front seats quite comfortable. They fit me well, can heat my butt and back when it’s cold, cool them when it’s warm, have adjustable bolster and lumbar supports, and even give a rudimentary massage. Yeah, they’re nice.
