Kinja'd!!!

My dad, sister, brother and me plus my BIL, daughter, and nephews. It was good to be at table with family.

Beef tenderloin roast, butternut squash soup, asparagus, baked potatoes, and home made Barolo that my mom and dad made. Apple and squash pies for dessert. We flew the missing mom formation at the table.

I’m pretty tired now; my dad is watching the Vienna symphony and in the other room. I hope all of you are starting the new year with your loved ones.

I made my own Hoppin’ John. Cooked some black eye peas in the Instant Pot with rendered bacon, onion, garlic, salt and chicken broth and s erved with rice. Also on the menu was a mixture of collard and turnip greens, corn muffins and the left-over Honeybaked ham from Christmas. Oh, also had sliced tomatoes. Its too bad fresh tomatoes aren’t in season, but these were acceptable .

My kids aren’t really keen on the southern-style cooking, but if they want to eat and mom isn’t cooking, they have to deal with it.

Anything based on beans and rice sits well with me. I haven’t dealt much with collard or turnip greens, but I like greens in general.

Agreed on  the kids. Ours learned in pre-K, “you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit”.

Nice big group. My BIL has been here since 12/23. Great guy, but I’m glad he’s heading out tomorrow. We did a fantastic pork roast. Simple seasoning: salt, pepper, garlic powder. Came out perfectly.

Happy New Year. Best wishes for good fortune and good health to you and your family.

Sounds great. Simple is best. I cut a pocket in mine and put rosemary sage and thyme from my garden and roast it.

Same to you. I head back to Texas Monday. Looking forward to warm weather again.

We just did w hat we’ve done the last few years, went to bed early.

We don’t celebrate it, might as well get to sleep before the fireworks start and then you can’t get to sleep.

Woke up needing a pee and then spent several years on here.

Happy new year mate.
