My Grand Prix is a deer killer and shows no remorse

Kinja'd!!!

Just got my ‘07 Pontiac Grand Prix back and apparently it’s a beast. Took out a deer at 55 mph and has only cosmetic damage... I’m genuinely surprised. It even looks ready to kill again. The damage is localized to what others said before; namely the hood, the passenger headlight, the front damage, and the bracket for the headlights.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

So my game plan is to try and bend the hood back into position and visit my neighborhood-friendly junkyard to get a headlight and a headlight bracket. Might need to get a new front bumper, since it seems it might help support the headlight bracket. I’ll play it by ear essentially.

I’ m glad you’re okay though. That’s a heck of an impact.

But the next question is:  did you get to keep the deer?

I would still check for frame damage, it’s what you don’t see that is the most concerning.

Sounds like a good plan, fixing the important things first. Don’t be afraid to “drift stitch” the old bumper if you’re going to keep it on the car for a while. I stitched up my old LeSabre’s plastic fender after its first deer str ike, and never got around to replacing it until a second deer hit it in the same spot.

Don’t turn it into insurance. They’ll total it before you finish saying ‘Grand Prix ’.

Yeah, I already realized to properly assess the body damage I’ll need to pop off the front bumper. I’ll have a better view of what needs to be replaced then.

I hit the deer head on then slammed on my brakes.... for a good 30 feet until I came to a full stop. And no I choose not to since I had no where to keep it. If you want it, you can have it though. Probably still there.

I saw one other deer, and the guy in the other lane said there were three total. Apparently deer blood doesn’t run deep since the two others ran away as quick as possible.

How would I drift stitch? Any guides I can follow?

Not much to it really, just drill a bunch of holes on either side of the crack and lash ’em together. I seem to recall somebody around here stitching up a silver (Taurus?) this way.

On my LeSabre, I actually used rivets and a backing plate, instead of zip ties:

Drill a hole on each side of the crack. Zip tie the holes together. Repeat the full length of the crack.

it looks like it might be zipties for the time being.

I had to do that to the bumper of my M azda 626 over ten years ago that snapped in half. It even passed the notoriously strict German TÜV inspection like that. Just make sure to use black zip ties as the white/chrystal ones apparently deteriorate in sunlight.

Thats not much damage for a deer. Glad your ok. I hate deer here in MI. They need open season all year.

Until then you need to fashion a giant eyepatch for the missing headlight.
