5.0L Ti-VCT V8 Engine (PFDI)

With 460 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of tire-squealing torque,* you won’t be at a loss for power with this engine. You don’t need to be a gearhead to understand how the PFDI system works – just take your foot off the brake and step on the gas.
*Horsepower and torque ratings achieved with 93-octane fuel.

So the 460/420 hp/trq figures are valid when using 93 octane fuel. Kinda curious now to know what 87 or 89 nets you. Has this been discussed before?

it all depends on how much it has to pull back timing, and each individual engine will be a bit different. best estimate I could find online is that you might lose up to a few percent with regular. Basically they’re saying “we guarantee the rated hp/torque with premium (within normal tolerances) and we guarantee it’s safe  to use 87, but we make no hp/tq claims with 87.”
