It’s early, and I’ve already been here an hour. Setting up for the marching band contest today. Here til 8:00, then back again this evening to help sell nachos and hot dogs.

Thanks. I get a long break in the middle of the day. My wife is working a double concessions shift today. I’m watching the RWC.

Contest days were always the best. Most kids had no clue what went into running one. I didn’t learn until I was voluntold to assist with various sports events. Swim meets and track competitions were the longest days.

As someone who has been swimming for 12 years and swims in college, the few times I've had to take part in the actual organizations of meets has been hell

I had a great time swimming as a kid. I was both happy and sad when my kids stopped swimming competitively. Happy that I no longer had to help. Sad that they would be missing out.
