I don’t know enough about these cars to know how good a deal this is. I’m used to cars like my wife’s Toyota Echo. The thing has nearly 350k miles on it, but the transmission is finally slipping so it’s gotta go. But it’s been a really good car for us.

With 115k miles, how much life should this Passat still have in it? Are their V6 motors trusty for a lot more miles? How about their 4Motion system? I’d love to get her in an all wheel drive car, but I’ve got no interest in it if it’s just going to be a nightmare/money pit.

I have a 2001.5, same layout, with just 126k on the clock. I can’t say these cars age well...it has TONS wrong with it, but it’s still driveable. I can’t wait to get rid of it.

The first 10 years were absolutely glorious, though. Very little went wrong and the car was extremely comfy, but very slow and thirsty.

Thanks, that’s the kind of feedback I was looking for.  I mean, it’s cheap enough...but if I’m going to hate it within 6 months, it’s a bad idea.

I’ve owned five VWs, three of which were TDIs and they were all great cars. But a 16 year old Passat with awd is not a car I’d take a chance on. My bet is that it could easily turn into a money pit before very long. When the seller says “ seems like a nice car ” that’s a red flag to me. I’d look for a newer fwd Passat and put proper snow tires on it instead of taking a chance on this car.

Thanks.  I figured I could find the voice of experience here.  As always, Oppo does not disappoint.  :)
