This has to be somebody’s cup of tea.

My mom had one of these and I really liked it. I can’t see paying two grand for it though. Not for a 32-year-old K-car. It had the 2.2L engine and got something like 35 mph at 55 mph.

The car that saved Chrysler.

Esay to work on cheap and decent gas mileage.

Still don't want it.

It was all driving across New Hampshire and Vermont on secondary roads.  Very favorable for MPGs.

They weren’t that terrible. The key is to only rev it to around 4k, then let it shift before rolling back into it. They made more torque than HP, so trying to rev them out just result ed in noise.

Just add the Turbo parts to this, SRT4 power without the price tag.

Oh that’s great. Now I need to visit a therapist again. Thank you for bringing back all the trauma from my first couple of cars. On the 25th anniversary of getting my driver’s license.

Jerk.

But seriously though, with all due respect to Long Voyager and his BDSM ways, F*CK ALL OF THESE POS. The motor might have been alright, but the control module sucked.

Pretty much on par, although I’d say these are about 400 lbs lighter than the Century while making 10 extra hp, so it’s likely quicker.

The control module, as in engine computer?

Never in all my miles of driving these vehicles have I had a computer issue ( ok, there was the time when I was running a 3.3 on a 3.8 computer that caused some issue, but it still ran decent considering the computer shouldn’t have been able to run the engine at all ).

If you’re talking about passenger area, these damn things are still quieter and more comfortable than a lot of cars rolling off the lot today! They may not have all the gimmicks, but they are god damn comfortable places to spend time.

Yet despite their shortcomings, many cars of that era are still more comfortable, more fuel efficient places to spend time than a lot of new cars.

Yes, but at the time they didn’t call it a computer (if I remember correctly from junkyard trips, we’re talking 2.5 decades here ).

I can’t help your experience.

My experience was a couple different ‘computers’ with heat expansion shorts that would re- occur. And other annoying problems. (But my experience was only about 35,000 miles in 1 year with 3 K cars , so who knows)

Though I will also say that my experience was all 1983 models in 1994 so it is possible that I was on the receiving end of cars at the point of major failure due to age and use. But as a 16 year old when cell phones were just gaining acceptance walking to the nearest farm because the component overheated sucked.

I will give the 2.2 props for being able to go 10,000 miles on a slightly out of round crank without blowing up. That engine knock was always a bit scary though if I ever hit 3100rpm.

We had an 87 Century when I was younger. That thing felt like a rocket 0-40 ish. Pretty sure 0-40 was something like 4-5 seconds, complete with screeching tires to around 20 mph , 0-60 however was damn near 30 seconds. Once it shifted out of 1st gear it was done.

Regardless, that car was so fun to drive, mostly because you could drive it at 11/10 everywhere you went. Funny enough, I managed to get pulled over by a local cop for “unnecessary display of power” leaving a stop sign in traffic. I busted out laughing in the cop’ s face when he said that. He said “Is there something funny about this?”, I said “Do you fucking see what I’m driving?!?!”. He ended up finding the humor in it as well and let me off with a verbal warning.

That's hilarious. I lived in a rural area and "town" was about 15-20 miles away. A 20-30 min drive at the speed limit. I may or may not have cut that down to 10-15 mins, depending on the statute of limitations for speeding.

I managed to bury the speedo on the highway in that car exactly once. Once it got over 75 mph the whole car started shaking so bad it felt like it was going to tear it apart, 85 mph was downright scary. It took something like 4 miles with the pedal mashed to bury the speedo.

Probably had more to do with the fact that it had something like 240k miles and had been piss pounded for around 140k of them. Pretty sure it was a wheel out of balance that no one bothered with cause it was only noticeable over legal speeds, otherwise it was a spectacular cruiser that always managed over 30 mpg no matter how hard we beat it.

Haha, yeah, that would explain it. I never really paid much attention to mileage. Gas was between $.90 and $1.25/gal so it never took more than $20 to fill up.

We always pay attention to mileage, if nothing else it’s a great indicator of something going wrong, but mostly because we like to know. That little Buick broke 40 mpg on numerous occasions when we took trips, but would average 32-37 mpg in mixed driving.
