I asked him what he was going to do with it, and he said just buy a new one. I asked him to leave it and he said sure. So how do I fi x it?

What does it do when you turn it on? Is the motor itself burnt out?

Haven’t tried yet. Was cutting a larger piece of wood and it died. How hard would it be to  rebuild, you think?

Does it smell or not even try to move when you pull the trigger? If not it may have popped a fuse or something else

If it does then the motor is burned out and it would cost more to get rewound than it is worth. You might be able to get a replacement motor, but I don’t know.

I just tried, and got bright flashy lights from motor compartment, and a small movements from blade. Then that stopped

They aren’t hard to take apart and put back together. The tricky part is figuring out which piece is faulty. Also, a replacement rotor or stator  can be expensive enough to not be worth rebuilding the saw.

You could check the brushes. They could be worn or misaligned.

Could be a bad bearing and the motor is making contact. Or a load of gunk is built up in   the motor

I wasn't sure, but figured I'd ask before it was tossed. If it's dead, so what

I would do the same thing. Would be cool if it’s cheap to fix.

I’d look at th e brushes and see if they’re dirty or damaged.

You might take the motor off and see what a local electric motor shop says. If suitable parts can be found , electric motors can often be rebuilt for a lot less than folks might suspect.

Those diablo blades are pretty good and hold up well.

I had to do some trim work and the time they saved not having to sand the edges  was worth it.

Sounds like the motor has a short in it.  Windings are likely fried and time for a new motor.  Quick google makes it look like it is a $100 part though so better to replace the whole damn thing at this point.

I’ve had a couple rebuilt  before, but it is not cheap. Usually only worth it for specialty motors you can’t get replacements for or expensive industrial motors.  Cheapest I’ve been able to have it done is $300, it’s a very detailed and labor intensive process to have done.

The brushes are usually under caps on the side of the motor. You can usually access the caps  without taking the whole cover off. Brushes are really cheap to replace. I get a couple sets of brushes before the motor is toast. Triggers wear out too but it sounds like he has power.

Probably. Oh well. Worth the try, if I could have fixed it cheap

If that is a double bevel saw, the current new version is $350, so even if it needs a $100 motor, it is still not a bad deal.

That’s a good saw. Its to tally worth the $100 for a new motor.

You can order a new motor from DeWalt for pretty cheap, and its a real easy replacement to do yourself. Makes that particular saw a good deal! Also, brushless drill motors are real cheap, like 20 bucks cheap, and fit right in remote control cars, as opposed to spending $100 at the hobby shop.
