Some soccer mom is going to be so happy with this.
At that pace, these are likely all highway miles. I honestly wouldn’t be afraid to buy it.

actually the G-class is probably going to be one of their more durable models. Guy on Ars Technica forums has an older one he’s driven all over hell and damnation around the world.

An LS swap can’t be that difficult on these. Drive it until the engine explodes then replace it with an LS engine and enjoy a much more reliable G-Wagon

A notably tough chassis with a big naturally-aspirated V8 that is quite reliable* ...the mileage shouldn’t be all that surprising from a durability standpoint, really . However, this person has spent something like $70k Canadian on gasoline alone .

That’s a lot, but I know my dad put 240,000 kilometers on his Flex that he bought new in 6 years of ownership, so it’s not at all beyond the pale. A bit unusual for such a thirsty and expensive SUV but not as crazy as if those miles were on some exotic.

threads and LS swapping.

I n.. I wanna say 1997 (?)... or maybe ‘98 I put ~ 11 0K * MILES* on my 1992 Alfa Romeo 164-S... without leaving the state of Vermont. I had a long commute to work and a long commute to some classes I was taking between failing out of /leaving due to depression college in PA and finishing school up in Vermont... and it was fun to drive, so I drove it a bunch even when I didn’t have to, partly bec au se I was living with my dad and it was good way to get out of the house... in any case, this does not impress me... Mine worked out to about 485KM a day.

2008, so yeah. still, 140,000 miles in 5 years, while impressive, isn’t that tough to do. As others have said, these are the miles you want. Easy highway miles. I’d rather have a 5 year old truck with 140,000 miles vs a 15 year old one with 75,000. Age is what gets expensive.

The engine isn’t going to explode. They’re quite robust. Unless you run it out of oil.

The car had over 400K miles on it when loss of job and critical rear sub-frame rust caused us to part ways. It soldiered on for another two years on the highways under the ownership of a mechanic who self-inspected it and ignored the rust. T hen became a farm car, in which role it lasted for another several years before being driven into a ditch at high enough speed to totally wreck the front end. Some one took the engine out of it before it got junked, but I have no idea where it went. I lost track of it ar ound then. One of the most reliable and durable cars I’ve ever owned.

That’s the M157 turbo V8. But yeah, actually pretty reliable engine.

Explode = become prohibitively expensive to fix for someone buying a $30 k G-Wagon
But hey, if they are solid engines, then it should be a while before that happens.

I’m not even remotely surprised this hit that kind of mileage. More that someone actually kept it that long.

Might need a fuel injector or cam adjuster. Probably each about a $2-3k repair. Honestly brake and tire costs are going to be significantly more expensive than any other repairs, unless they lose the lottery.

You’re 40 years late on that one - we switched to metric distances in the ’7 0s.
That said, for other stuff (weights and volumes) it’s a hodgepodge of both standard (or imperial) and metric.

If I remember correctly the service intervals on the diffs something like 10k miles?

I have many co-workers that live 100kms out of the city. There used to be a couple that both worked at the store but because they worked different shifts some days they would take 2 cars 100kms each way.

No I don’t think they’re that low. Maybe 2/20k at lowest. GLA/CLA45 is every 10k. ML/GL/GLE63 don’t even specify diff intervals. All the limited slip cars are first at 2k, then every 20k IIRC.
