Drove the Sunbird about 20 miles to a tiny town I used to live in as a child for their annual car show.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

And, discovered a mouse has built a nest in the engine bay.

Kinja'd!!!

Got   to stop that in its tracks before some wires get chewed. Any advice?

The car is stored in a pole-barn type building surrounded by cornfields. The fields have recently been harvested, which leads me to believe a displaced field mouse set up shop in the car’s engine bay. I drive it once a month at the least, but apparently that isn’t enough.

I also filled up (with non-ethanol gas) today and discovered the Sunbird is also becoming quite the fuel miser.

The statio n I go to has attendants that fill up your car for you, and they always top it off to the nearest dollar amount. I think that has been skewing my MPG readings, as I asked the guy not to do that this time and I go t a more believable number like this. All other thanks have been 24 MPG or less.

Anyway, here are some other vehicles I found interesting at the show:

The two-tone Nova ended up winning best in show.

I’m laughing my ass off at the club, because I had one in College at my insurance agent’s recommendation.

It was so cool. Not in mint condition but not bad, either. You could tell the owner enjoys it.

You could get a Labrador and keep it in the pole barn with the car. Labs love mice. Mice hate labs.

Nice pictures, love the aqua Chevrolet pickup.

Regarding mice, here’s a very long comment thread from Hemmings about various possible mice repellents and traps.

To keep the mice at bay put some Tupperware containers with mothballs and cedar chunks in them under the car. Opening the hood can help too because they’re less likely to build nests if it’s not dark enough for them to feel hidden.

The owner was really cool. He came over to talk to me about the Sunbird.

I used to own a 03 Miata and stored it during the Upstate NY winters. The best thing you can do is clean out the home the mouse made and buy strong smelling dryer sheets and put them anywhere a mouse can get into. Good luck!
