My buddy and I are going to be embarking on another long scooter adventure, like last year when we did the Gambler 500-Illinois on scooters. The Gambler is out of range for us this year, but we still want to go adventure. We will probably be riding 400 miles over the weekend this time. This year, I have a rear rack on my scooter. I’m too cheap to buy an actual top case, so I’ve got two options.
Option A, old Craftsman tool box:
Option B, milk crate:
He tool box is more interesting and offers dry storage, whereas the crate has the advantage in volume. What say Oppo?

If you can fit what you need in the toolbox, it is at least 375x cooler than the crate.

Good point. I guess I should figure out what I actually need.

If you go with the toolbox make sure you secure it well, it looks very theftable.

The toolbox. Mostly because the orange of the cra te is a bit in your face when matched with the black of the scooter.

I do have a black crate, I just need to put the stuff in that crate, in this one instead.

Gonna bolt it on with U-bolts.

Its definitely the cooler solution.

I’d probably try to get some used luggage from goodwill then strap that down, wrap it in a tarp.

Interesting idea.

Been working in Indy for 5 weeks living out of luggage, it’s first thing that came to mind.
I’d probably secure a plywood as a footprint for suitcase. Then attach suitcase to that.

Sure did, neat. Worth the 45 minutes I spent there.
I stopped by Fort Harrison state park and it’s a $7 day use fee. That’s a hard no for just looking around. Season passes available, but still not really worth it.

I’ve rocked a milk crate before on my scooters and loved it. It would fit both a lot of stuff and even my XXL helmet with no issues.
Downside on the milk crate is it’s open to the weather, downside to the toolbox is that if you got in an accident it turns into a heavy, nasty and pointy projectile.
The toolbox itself might also be at the upper end of what your luggage rack should hold without anything being in it.

Nice, thanks.
Free parks in the general area worth visiting: Southeastway, Skiles Test, Paul Ruster, Marott, Holliday.

If I do the toolbox, I’ll drill holes in the bottom and bolt it to the rack with flat U-bolts. It's not as heavy as it looks, although either one loaded up won't exactly help my handling. The rack is pretty beefy, and it mounts very solidly to the frame of the scooter.

One must uphold one’s place in the world. Shop-teacher(s) would never do a milk crate. A tool box is the only way to go.
