This is pretty Oppo-y and no real details of the claim are given so I am sharing. This is a CNG filling station and related equipment. It also kinda gives you an idea of what kind of claims I do.
There is no claim involving any of the equipment shown or the CNG process at all.
It’s a great way to fuel fleet/commercial vehicles as the fuel comes from underground NG lines and does not need to be trucked in. All of Metro Vancouver is piped for NG and all homes in Vancouver (other than Geo/electric) are heated by NG.
These are the steps in the process:
1) Upgrade existing NG lines to site and Hydro connections. This baby needs MOAR power and MOAR supply.
2) This piece of equipment is a CNG dryer (Molecular Sieve) and where the NG comes into the site. The canister is full of a desiccant which draws the moisture out of the NG (sometimes NG can have low level water vapour). The gas comes in at about 30psi.
3) The now dry NG flows into one of two compressors which are quite impressive. They are 3 stage compressors and generate quite a bit of heat (much like a turbocharger, compression creates heat). They have computer actuated shutters in the rear and doors and the cooling fans can be reversed in the winter to draw in cold air. There is also a crane (winch on tracks) inside allowing them to be serviced with ease. The NG is compressed to 5000psi.
If you take the doors off, you can fit 2 in a Seacan. This allows for easy transport and quick set up.
4) From there, the now CNG flows into this tiered structure. The gas flows from top to bottom into the filling station. This allows for even pressure during filling with other tiers filling in for the tier currently being used to keep pressure up.
5) Finally, the gas flows into one of two pumps. Blue handle is for up to 3000psi filling capacity (usually small trucks) a yellow handle is for above that to 4500psi. The pumps are basically pressure hoses, like the one on an air compressor rather than traditional fuel pumps.

So I was looking at this yesterday:
I was bit surprised to see natural gas being 3% of the transportation sector. That’s not much, but it feels like a lot compared to the amount of CNG vehicles you see. I guess some places have CNG buses, and there are probably other things outside of the normal consumer space.
I’m obviously disappointed by the complete lack of nuclear transportation. It does make me wonder how military use is counted here if at all (do nuclear subs and carriers count as transportation? Maybe even if they do, their use is small in the grand scheme of things).

Most, if not all vehicles using this are standard pickups adapted for dual fuel. This truck is CNG, but without any badges you could not tell.

According to Roush you can order a conversion from the dealer too! Well if you want a big truck at least.

T akes a little hit on towing capacity too.

A lot of the LA taxi fleet and pretty much ALL the buses/shuttles to LAX are now CNG. It does help with air quality a lot.

I also wonder how they got 101.3% of power.

Wait, I have a hydro field cutting through my neighborhood. Somehow it always just made me feel good. I can put a spare bulb in my hand and light up my yard!
/in Alabama
//we have a surprising amount of hydro here
///also one of the highest natgas adoption rates
in the US

Alabama homes are illuminated with rockets, not electricity.

AB = Alberta :)
Check out this map — we’ve been bending nature to the will of man since the Great Depression! Every lake has a hydro plant. It’s still a minority compared to Natural Gas power plants, but coal is disappearing. We also have a couple nuke plants here, but they don’t get much press for obvious reasons.

Neat! We’re 90-95% hydro power, the rest is likely imported coal with some wind/solar too.

Wow, that’s pretty amazing. To be fair, a lot of power generation is based on whatever natural resources are available to you in an area (for us, natural gas makes sense; hydro requires a lot of infrastructure). But despite the reputation of a lot of red states, we do take our natural areas very seriously. We have the 2nd or 3rd highest biodiversity of any state in the US, along with a couple of the cleanest rivers in the nation. The rest, not so much...but it’s fun when you can see hunters, fisherman, climbers, hikers, naturalists, etc, all rally behind conservationist causes despite their political differences in other areas.
