My Camry is still in the shop, and so my mom’s trusty Accord has been my ride..... or so I thought.
Just got a text from her saying that as she was driving home, she heard a “loud pop” and that it “just died”..... I’m puzzled.... the ONLY thing I can think of is MAYBE the alternator?? It’s got 155,000 miles currently. This
is all very ironic because we were just talking about how reliable this car has been for us, last night.
Hopefully it’s nothing too bad..

Looks like a nice place to breakdown at least
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

Oh, haha I didn’t get a picture of the actual break down location. That was from its last road trip - somewhere in Virginia

When she told me that it “just died”. I assumed she meant the engine cut off. What actually happened was that the engine stayed running, but the car would no longer accelerate .... turns out one of the cv axles gave out as she was trying to make a left turn.

All three?! Intentionally?

Oops. That happened to me once, thankfully I was half a block from a auto repair shop. I managed to coast into their driveway, left a note with my name and phone number on the windshield.

Yeah! My mom got pretty lucky too. She was literally just about to cancel our AAA membership (which gives you free towing up to 5 miles)
, because we’ve never needed a tow before. Crazy how things work out sometimes.

Ah, wow...hope she didn’t floor it and murder anything under the car with broken CV shaft flailing!
Surprised it got to that point though...usually you can hear a failing CV shaft long before they are anywhere near close to failing that catastrophically?

Only one was intentional.
Hyundai Elantra - int en tional changing the clutch
Saturn Ion - oil pan bolt sheared and while trying to get the bolt out it went into the pan
Honda Element - something in the drivetrain went on Thursday and it has no power up steep hills.

Yeah, I was also quite surprised that the CV shaft failed so suddenly! I rarely drive it, but never heard anything out of the ordinary as a passenger, that would lead me to believe it was failing.

Huh, very odd! Usually when a CV shaft is failing, you hear a very noticeable clicking when the car is moving when turning in the direction of the side of the shaft that is failing....usually sharper turns, like turning into a parking space or driveway. (You can especially hear it when testing by turning the car in a circle on full lock).
