Ok. Not gonna lie. I’m HIGHLY tempted to purchase this....

I haven’t really heard anything bad about these.... (yeah, yeah, other than rust)

Camry is in the shop, will find out verdict tomorrow, hopefully.

Kinja'd!!!

2005 Mazda 6.... er.... technically it’s the Mazda “Mazda6". 81,000 miles for $4800? Shoot....

The 2.3 is the good motor but a slush box detracts. Still tho that’s a great price on a pretty damn good car. It has abs, airbags, and a  great interior for any car from the mid 2000’s.

*Jedi mind trick* You want the Speed6 not this car.

Did it work?

Hatchback 6 is better than trunked 6, plus it’s near 15 years old. Seems a bit high, but they are nice cars.

I’d look at the second gen as well - I like the first gen a lot but I think the second gen is a better car.

Don’t get this one. Don’t get me wrong they’re great cars (the rust is a very, very real issue though, that majorly detracts), but you will definitely want the V6 with the 6 speed auto (obviously manual if you can find one). Anyways the V6 cars can be had for essentially the same price as the 4 cylinders (odd that) and they are Much, much quicker. That 6 speed auto helps as well.

I’ve heard that the V6's have pre-cat issues or something? That’s really the only thing scaring me away from the V6. Other than that, yeah, I have noticed that prices are basically  the same for V6 models

oooh, I would love a hatchback 6.... Second gen 6? ... Never really fell in love with the looks of the second gen, but they do seem to be great deals from the ones i’ve seen.

Yeah unicorns, but I somehow pulled one as a rental one time and it was fantastic.   If I have to deal with a trunk, the second gen prices are comparable and the 2.5 is better than the 2.3.

yeah! I mean either way, it would be quite the upgrade for me .. . That low mileage is what really draws me in... even if it’s slushbox. Still mind boggling that a 14 year old car could look so good!

Not sure, I feel like I did hear something about that. As much as I hate to say it, your best option if you need a new vehicle is to get another Camry. Obviously to get something good you’ll have to aim for newer. I absolutely love the Mazda 6 but the rust is a huge issue that is inevitable and once the rust starts it’s not gonna stop. The Camry on he other hand sacrifices driver engagement for a rock solid reliability and very importantly for us rust belt states, lower tendency to rust in half. Every 6 months I try to justify getting something else in the same sort of vehicle class and I can’t. Hopefully I can convince myself to get a newest gen base Impreza with a manual though. Also if you can get it for a reasonable price try to get the upscale version of the  Camry (makes a world of difference). Avalon, Solara, and Lexus ES330.

yea... that’s my dilemma . I know that if I buy a Mazda6, for one, the rust can be a serious issue... then next thing I know, when it’s time to sell... Who’s gonna want some rusted out 6?

I did actually consider the post refresh Lexus es330.... One hell of a deal on the used car market

2.3 needs belt service at 115k. Pump goes with it, and if it uses the same engine mount as the 3, it tends to go here and there but that's just regular service. but it’s still a good car.

They came in sedan, hatchback (wagon), and lift back flavors!

Yes very much so. Also if it helps, I can assure you that the Solara and Es330 (identical power train and suspension which is different from the Camry slightly) is actually quite a capable car. It’s dull, and uninspiring in the feedback department but they scoot down the road and will negotiate corners at shockingly high speeds for a family car . They don’t like to slide though and will incessantly beep at you in loss of traction situations even if traction control is turned off.

I had a 2006 Speed 6 for 5 years from 2008-13 .

There were many issues related to the motor, but aside from that, i t was a fucking rustbucket with infinite interior rattles that could never be solved.

The Speed 6 was built in Japan. The regular USDM 6 was built in Michigan. I can’t imagine it would have less rust and rattles than the Speed.

I also have a 2005 Mazda6 but the wagon with about 94000 on the clock. Can’t speak to the 4cyl but the handling is great and the ride is really good. Had this one from new and don’t plan on letting it go anytime soon. I don’t mind the 6sp auto. It does its job and it isn’t a CVT.
