My flight out of LAX is super delayed so my layover in DFW is now a total of 15 minutes assuming we still take off as expected. Since the gate closes ten minutes before departure I’m hoping like hell for a delay so that I get more than 5 minutes at best to make it from Terminal A to Terminal C. If I don’t make it, the next flight isn’t until 7am and since it’s weather the airline has told me to pound sand and wait if I don’t make the connection. So I’ll be late for work tomorrow, hotel is already past cancellation tonight, and I’ll have a fun time exploring DFW all night. Here’s to making my short layover somehow!
EDIT:
Flight aware has given me some hope! My flight is going to fly faster or found a better route I guess! Originally said 634pm (my next flight is 649pm). So I might actually make it. Also, Jeff Goldblum is on my flight apparently, so maybe the plane has.. Uh... Found a way.
Update again:
I have just made it to Dallas and thankfully my connecting flight is delayed a half hour. So now I should actually make it! What a day. I also watched Get Out on this flight. Was in the right stressed out mood for a thriller so it was an extra good movie under these conditions lol.
One more update!
I've made the flight thanks to the delay. Even had time to eat something from the grab and go kiosk at Fridays. It was overpriced but at least it was a decent tasting sandwich. Beats digging a cliff bar out of my bag or starving till i get in. No idea what might be open when I get on the road finally and I really need to get to bed anyways. Good day!

We had this same situation, but the connecting airport was...LAX. It was stupid stressful, but we made it. God speed out there!

Tell the FA. They might ask the other pax to let you off first.

If you don’t have bags you can swap to another airline, and they have to return your fare. Even if you do, I’ve made them pull bags if it’s a clear BS situation.
How far is your connection? Might be worth it to just fly to DFW and one way a rental car, then you can keep your hotel reservation.

It's like a two hour flight to Florida almost so I doubt that's drivable. It's a work flight anyways, so I have no control over any of it. Just have to hope I make it otherwise I'll have to call my travel agency and who knows what happens then. It's weather related so only recourse if I miss the connection is to wait.

This sounds like you have an overnight layover.

You are not going to make that connection if you land 15 minutes before the next one takes off . It will take 10 minutes to just get off of the plane.

With luck they built enough buffer in the schedule to land near your scheduled
arrival time. Happend to me leaving O’hare 1 hour delay leaving arrived in Atlanta 5 mins late.

Definitely probable, won't know anything until the plane is in the air and the pilot gives a solid arrival time. Maybe they can make that updated time. It's switching back and forth so I'm in limbo. Taxiing now so all I can do is wait. There's worse airports than DFW to get stuck in at least. I'll go check out that video game center where you can get like unlimited access for the day for like $20 or whatever it is. Food is decent too. Maybe my work will put me in a hotel and such, no idea haven't ever been stranded. I've had a 10 hour layover before though but that was midday and I eventually made it.

If you have a work travel agency this is what they get paid to deal with. Try to make the flight, but if it doesn’t work out, have them sort it.

Yeah, I don’t think that’s happening unless they hold the other plane for you (which is a thing that can happen). Good luck...
If you get stuck, I regret to inform you Arlington isn’t a happening nightlife spot, and the Rangers aren’t even in town.
Maybe they can get you on another airline?

I think they pad the times a bit, and then if there's a delay they can fly faster and make it up, and if not they cruise a little slower and save fuel.

Yeah, pilots do have some leeway to book it and make up time, especially to avoid screwing up everybody’s connections.

Last time I almost missed a connection it was through DFW. I informed the FA of my connection when we la te boarded in ATL. She was already aware. They flew faster to make up some time, I left the plane first, the gate agent gave me updated gte assignment for my connection, and they held the connection for me. I was the last person on and they saved a 1st class aisle seat for me.
If you miss it, email or call your travel agent and let them sort it out.

I fly 7-9 times a month, to and from houston.. on an average. Unless I take a vacation.
And I USED to not care when flying the DFW.
Bu t a few times, the weather messed with my schedule and at work and I got an authorization to always book di rect flights.
I even get paid for working (schedule, meetings, planning, responding) during the flights and may be the company just wanted to minimize that. lol .
Fuck Connecting flights.

We are supposed to use Egencia (corporate version of expedia) for our work travel agency and they can go suck a sack of moldy balls. Egencia is so useless that most of our employees are no longer using it especially for flights. I will use it for hotels that can be direct billed but that’s about it. I’m pretty sure there is still $1,4 00 can celed delta flight on my account, but they want $250 to rebook just through Egencia, not the airline.

Doable. If upper number A and lower C gates, run and take the skywalk. If lower A and upper C take the tram thing (I always run so fuck that thing anyways). If inbetween this sets of gates I’d run probably.

I guess you’re midflight and using in-flight wifi? If you see this before the seatbelt sign is on for landing, spot a seat as far forward as you can (that’s not in 1st), and ask the flight attendant if you can move there. This can make aalllll the difference. If you have a specific seat “my doors to my next flight close 8 minutes after we land, and the next one isn’t till tomorrow. I see that seat 8C is open. Is it possible for me to move there for the remainder so I have a chance? I’d appreciate it, and you could be saving me a night in the airport.”
Instead of just “can I move up there?”
If they ret ort back to you that you can’t move up to those front handful of coach class rows because its economy plus or whatever, I was just point out that you’re only asking to be there for those few minutes before landing.
another beam of hope is that the flight that you are connecting to may not actually close the door at that exact time. Th ere is a little bit of flexibility that the flight attendants have before it’s officially marked as leaving late. So it’s possible they may still be finishing up boarding, and not close the door until 6 minutes before departure or something like that. But it won’t show up on the airline website, or on FlightAware (until it actually pushes from the gate).
Nail biter. Please update us after all is said and done :-|

Oh yeah anything Expedia touches sucks. I used to handle a lot of travel for a small business - so we were on our own. I’d usually have good luck being polite but firm with airlines and engaging on social media. Usually hotels would accommodate if you booked a replacement hotel with their chain where you got stuck. But in general, I would not book anyone on anything other than a direct flight. If there had to be a connection, it was always at a hub “closeish” to the destination so if everything got FUBARed there were lots of options. The client wants you there at the top of your game, and sometimes that means paying extra for the direct flight.

Yeah I get paid for flight time too, but it's a different color of money so me spending 12 hours at the airport is not factored into cost. I still try to minimize it though when I can.

I don’t live near a big airport so all my flights are usually on Alaska to Seattle. Except when I go ton Portland, that is a direct flight and oh is it nice.

All I can say is, I learnt the lesson hard way. And I haven’ t taken a connecting flight, not thru Dallas since Feb 2018. Nope. Got burned too bad. massive waste of time and worst of it all, it shortened the time I was going to spend with family. So Fuck DFW - in hurricane season and fuck connecting flights.

Broke a personal record earlier in the month. Due to delays, I had 6 minutes to make a connection at DFW. Full on s print from the mid-B gates to the mid-A gates. It was bad luck after bad luck. With over 1, 000 connections through DFW, this was only the second mainline flight I had arrive at terminal B. Also had a passenger insist on holding up deplaning to straighten out her skirt. I did get a high five from the gate agent. Told me it was a huge surprise I made it. I was the last pax to board.

Unfortunately there were no direct flights between the airports I needed to use. Although there were layovers in alternate locations depending on the times. I generally avoid layovers on personal travel like the plague. But I'd gladly accept a layover with enough of a discount.

I ended up making it since my connecting flight got delayed. I already have status so I get the better seats to begin with which is nice. But American flights are ALWAYS full so it's not like there's open seats to switch to usually.

I'd never bother with loyalty regardless if it were my money. Since work pays for my travels, I am forced into using American anyways and might as well try my darndest to stick with one hotel brand. Some day I'll get to stay someplace real nice for basically free. Airline rewards can add up too but my points are super spread out across every airline. Just have to keep up and not let them expire.
