That clip is absolutely hilarious.... I’m calling that one “Brexit Explained”.

It scares me how prophetic that clip appears given that the show aired.. 30 years ago?

Forty Years Ago. I can’t believe it’s that long, but it is.

I love the one-liners:
“Pig’s breakfast”
“What you call deep cynicism we call ‘diplomacy’”

Good Lord. I knew it was prior to 1990 but I never looked up when exactly..

Aired in 1980 I think, written for the 79-80 season.
The Common Market, EEC transition was in full swing but this was long before the Euro or even Schengen Accord I believe.

Yeah, I think before Schengen, but I think even by '80 the Euro dreams were already being had. The explanation of the Foreign office planning to "destroy it from within" feels uncomfortably like a plausible explanation for Brexit..

Not to pour petrol on your paranoid ravings... but have you ever wondered why the UK consistently said “No! Nein! No!” to currency integration?
A suspicious person might say “Well, if you are getting in only to get out you’d want your currency to be based on your own stable balance sheet”...
Just sayin’...
