We’ve driven the Vibe about 56,000 miles over the last four years. I’ve replaced two bulbs, a battery, a DRL relay, tires, and oil. It has never broken down and it’s cost me nothing to maintain, compared to say a 17-year old Lexus.
The 1ZZ mated to a slushbox is neither sexy nor fast, but if you want acres of cargo space, dependability, and no bullshit, then you could do a lot worse.

How do you make a 1ZZ & slushbox even slower? Add AWD to it.
Just like one I had in college. I miss that car for the very reasons you mentioned. Underneath it was all rust & the rear sub-frame was almost gone, that’ s why I got rid of it.

My parents, now sisters has been with them for 150k miles now, and it has needed maintenance, that’s it. It’s been by far their most reliable car they’ve had. My mother misses it, especially since at 56k miles the Azera already sounds like a knocking crapcan.

My sister had two of those. Loved them. Wrecked them both (well, brother in law wrecked one, and truthfully neither one was their fault). They did their jobs at the end, too.

A reliable cheap car is easy to take for granted.
We’re just over 50k since we bought the Fit as well we bought it with 35,000 and it’s at 88,500 now. we had to replace the blower motor 2 years ago , I did front pads and rotors last February, besides that just regular oil changes and a brake fluid flush. It’s due for a trans flush as well.
And there’s no 100,000 miles maintenance on it because it has a timing chain. The recommended service interval for the chain is “when you hear it”

We’ve put 40k miles of pure abuse on the Acclaim since I put it together ( so what 1.5 yrs? ), it’s needed tires, oil changes, and the 24 yo fuel lines replaced. Figure I’m doing alright for a 240k mile motor, 150k mile trans, and otherwise 24+ yo parts....
