Dozens and dozens of new Teslas sitting in a parking lot in Redmond, WA

I had some time in between appointments today so I figured I’d drop by the Sears store and do some tool shopping, to my disappointment the store was closed for good. Not surprising.

There were a ton of Teslas parked in the Sears parking lot (most notably model X’s and Model 3's) , with build stickers of September 2019. Brand spanking new. Is this a place to park inventory until someone buys them? Or, does Tesla use the parking lot as a staging area to ultimately deliver cars? None of them were prepped for sale if that matters.

I suppose supply/production and demand are hitting possibly uncomfortable points.

With how popular these things are among the local techdork crowd, you could have told me it was just a local MSFT/Google/tech-adjacent parking lot, and I’d believe it.

Any of them have “blue tape” on the windows or windshield? That’s usually code for “hold for rework and upgrades”.

I’m really curious how many Tesla will ship in the US this quarter.  Demand seems to have softened a bit with the tax credit expiring.

could be what you suggested, but most car companies would avoid using unsecured property for storage. The last time I saw something like that was around 2007 when Daimler was forcing Chrysler to build Rams, Dakotas, and Durangos at full tilt with no orders which meant so many open lots in the vicinity of Detroit were full of them. Seriously, the State Fairgrounds was full of Rams and Dakotas, the Silverdome parking lot was full of them, etc.

Joachim Eberhardt was a C U Next Tuesday.

Is there a Tesla store in that shooping center? There’s a mall in Tampa that has a Tesla dealership in it, on the second floor. T hey don’t let you take one for a test drive in the mall, however .

The closest dealer is in Be llevue, not exactly around the corner from where the cars are parked

There was no tape on any of the cars

Wow. Ready for delivery prep then...

Do you go by there often? Will be interesting to see if they evaporate in the next 18 days... The company always seems to do big end-of-quarter pushes.

Of course, you are still reasonably close to the Port down by the Mighty Duwamish so they “could” be staging them to put them on a freighter to Asia before the end of the month.  If they export them, they definitely can’t book the revenue this month.

I saw about 7 transporter trucks full of teslas on I5 in Oregon heading  that direction in mid August so I wonder if that's something they do regularly
