I’ve m entioned before, how I long for a Ram to pull the 3 wheeled step child around from car event to car event and mechanic to mechanic . I’ve driven every competing truck in the 1/2 ton and midsize segment and the Ram is my heart’s keeper. The Lim ited has every option I’d spec out on a luxury car.

- Pros-Full of options, reclining rear seats

Cons-FCA quality assurance problems, MPGs, very expensive (55-65 new, 45-55 used)

In the midsize realm, the Ridgeline handily beat the others in how I will actually use it and how much more comfortable it is for daily duties. It will also tow the 3000lb fully loaded 7x12 trailer braked trailer fine enough, sure will the engine struggle yeah but there is enough proof on the forums to convince me it’ll be fine . However there are some qualms with it.

- Pros- Comfortable as a daily, Inexpensive comparatively, reliable

- Cons- Adaptive Cruise Control doesn’t do stop and go traffic, not as heavily optioned

I want the Ram, but the R idgeline fits my needs. I’m going to wait until the ‘20s come out for the updated infotainment screen, but I’ll always be disappointed about the cruise control.

If it makes a difference the Ridgeline will likely  hold better value, as a percentage. If your towing is infrequent and you don’t care about being able to maintain normal speeds at all times while towing then I’d go Ridgeline. The lower costs will allow you to put money in other passions as well.

A co-worker has a Ridgeline and absolutely loves it. It is a fairly comfy place to be. It is MUCH more maneuverable and easier to park than the Ram. The only thing that concerns me about the Ridgeline is the automatic transmission. Honda does not have the best history with auto’s and I would be concerned with using a Ridgeline for lots of towing. I have no evidence to back my thoughts up though.

Gotta say, that I would rather have the Ram.  They are so nice, despite being the size of a school bus.

I might be biased as I do marketing for a Ram Dealer, but having driven both, I say go with the RAM. The Ridgeline was a nice vehicle to drive, but I longed for a full size truck the whole time I drove it. Maybe I was missing the V8 sound or the larger size, but something just was off for me. The RAM is a damn luxury car in Limited trim and feels worthy of the price, imo.

Have you tried any of the other mid-size truck offerings?  A Ranger Lariat 4x4 is a very nice vehicle and would handle your towing chores with ease.  Its also gonna be a fairly easy vehicle to DD.

I agree with the consensus that the Honda is probably the best choice for people that want a truck and will use it lightly. It is still unquestionably the worst looking one, both in pics and in person.

Comparing it to any of the domestic trucks, from a pricing perspective it’s important to ignore MSRP and look at actual selling price. There’s a bazillion $$$ in rebates and dealer discounts on all of the domestic trucks, and that’s by design. If you can swing $60k for a truck and want to tow, just get a moderately optioned 2500 diesel .
