I was led astray by my love for ducktail spoilers, It was a tough internal struggle but I went for the OEM Cavalier LS/Z24 spec rear spoiler over the Elantra GT’s that I installed on it a couple of weeks back.
A complete ‘02 Cavalier LS decklid with spoiler popped up on my normal rounds of Craigslist surfing. I was like “cool,” texted the dude and he quoted me $100. I think that’s a ridiculous price for it and followed it with a text, “sure, I’ll buy it.”
^ My old project car with a GTU ducktail spoiler. Ducktails are my Kryptonite.
I put the trunk lid in the trunk. These cars are so versatile.
The Seller lives up in Wisconsin which makes it a 4 hour round trip for me to scoop up the goods. Kinda sucks but whatever, it’ll get me out the house and socialize. The guy was pretty cool, he and his kids run cares in demolishing derbys and he really likes 70s big block motors. The important thing is that I didn’t get murdered. Everytime I craigslist, it’s always in the back of my mind when I roll up to a house...you never know these days.
The installation is pretty easy. You just take out the 4 bolts holding it in place, undo some wiring harness and switch out the lock cylinders to your originals and you are in business. I should’ve kept the trunklid off and left it like that. Convert it into a little pick up truck.
I can’t be bothered with color matching it. I want to eventually have the car repainted #ProjectCarLife .
I like that it has an angle to it, I don’t want to much downforce on the rear of a FWDer since the traction is all up front unless I balanced it out with a splitter/canards/whatever.
^Love this view. That’s the official spoiler configuration for this car, we’re leaving it like that forever and ever. Thanks for reading!

I was up in Whitewater at 1 in the afternoon. Kinda just figured everyone is at their 9-5 jobs. I love driving up there, it’s always so scenic. I remember doing a road rally through some Wisconsin woods a few years back, twisty roads with breathtaking views. I like that there may be a paint guy...I’m just waiting to get the rocker panel metalwork redone since the rust is eating it like candy and then the paint magic will happen.

I kinda like the yellow, but...
why not swap the better taillights and just the spoiler onto the wing trunk? then you have just a little yellow, which you could easily paint white for temporary until the full paintjob.

Two reasons on that one. First, it saves me the hassle of making a template and lining up/drilling new mounting holes...it’s already done and sealed from the factory . Secondly, if I used my original decklid, I’d have 2 different sets of mounting holes; The original Elantra GT spoiler’s holes would need to be be covered with a plug since it’s a different pattern. It’s cleaner and easier this way.

Not everything can pull off the school bus color scheme.

either way, OEM+ is a fun way to modify
