...but only because Uber is ultimately just an unprofitable venture capitalist Ponzi scheme, because it’s 2019 and we’re okay with that for some reason.

Eh, if the POTUS can order his lackeys to ignore the courts and the House, why can’t Uber ignore CA?

Apparently y ou’re just paying to sit in a car. If it moves or goes somewhere that’s just a bonus.

I hope CA bans them altogether and causes a massive outrage.

Ironically, if we used all the money people pay for Uber rides we could probably have fully functional public transit in most bigger cities.

Their claim is that they are just a tech company providing a platform to match riders with drivers, but actually people is on their contractors. Which is of course pretty much nonsense.

Yep, but their veneer of providing a service kinda falls apart without drivers.

Uber certainly has made getting a lyft a lot easier, but if we were paying the real cost of this transportation I think not so many would be willing to use it.

Maybe they’ll move onto fried chicken, or laundry, or carwashes.

Sure sounds like a lot like the same logic used by those sovereign citizen yahoos right before the police break their window and taze them.

Hers an idea. How about we let employees and employers actually make the decisions for themselves about what jobs they will take and whether they are contract employee’s or not. This kind of nanny state nonsense is STUPID and I’m glad Uber is sticking to their guns on this one. Ohio for instance is an at will state. I decide to voluntarily work for a company, my employer voluntarily agrees to hire me. Either one of us can end the employment for any or no reason at all. Why is this important? Because it empowers employees and employers alike to make their own decisions. Don’t like not being classified as an employee? Get another job. What better pay? Ask for a pay raise or get another job. This also means that employees now have to COMPETE for employees. This means they have to pay a wage someone would actually want, provide benefits that an employee would demand. This idea that the government has to think for everyone in every aspect of their lives is absurd.

I thought the drivers were only a phase 1 in a plan to eventually become a massive fleet of autopilot taxi cars

Tech companies have been playing this game for decades. There have been a lot of other major lawsuits on this front over the years.

Nah, that allows corporations to take advantage of people without means to defend themselves. “Just quit and work somewhere else” is a social fallacy that’s been disproven many times. That reasoning only works if you have a robust social safety net, and we don’t.
