Private sellers have gotten in on the greed hype train that is the new 2020 Toyota Supra. Take this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! outside of San Diego. A white premium launch edition, its brand new with just 15 miles on it. Asking price? $85k. In the description, he seems to try and use rarity: “T his particular Launch Edition is the most coveted color combination of all because it is the least built color combo!”, and the fact that the first example sold for over $2 million at Barret Jackson as selling points. In an oblivious nod to over charging dealers while overcharging himself, he says: “ Why buy from me instead of the dealer? There are some dealers in CA asking over $100k for this color combo!” You may not be charging $100k, but you’re still asking a high price for a car that will be at or below MSRP after everyone that wants one buys one.
It gets even better as well. For one, he wants no lowballers, so this $85k is firm. On top of that, he wants serious inquires only (which makes sense as you don’t want to waste each others time) with asking prices at or above his asking price, but hes also asking for a $1,000 non refundable deposit if you want to see the car in person with him saying: “ to ensure no one’s time is wasted and unnecessary mileage is not added to the car.” If you want to close the deal, that deposit is taken and then put towards the purchase price. I wouldn’t ever. He must be some kind of dealer, flipper or broker as he also mentions he has access to a few black or red launch editions as well that he will be getting soon. So if you have $90k burning a hole in your pocket, hit him up.

Well considering the market has spoken via BAT and shown these shouldn’t command a markup, GLWS. Ha! Some people. But more power to me if they can get some sucker to pay a premium.

Right. He’ll get someone not in the know to pay it. Hopefully though he sits on it long enough to where it’ll knock some sense into him.

Both new and used across a broad spectrum of models and years. Hell you could get 2 used performance cars for that. Just off the top of my head, I could
get a used ATS-V and a used Cayman for the price of this.

Anyone can ask for any amount. No one has to pay for it though. These attempts are usually publicity stunts anyway.

I don’t think anyone bought it from what I read. I could be wrong though.

I can’t imagine being so desperate to own a car that I would pay %60 over MSRP to buy one.

My guess is he paid over sticker and is trying to recoup that loss by finding someone as dumb as he was.

Like the Lexus RC F track edition which should be the real supra unlike this BMW supra.

I have a friend who naturally enjoys buying and selling stuff. He usually buys something on Craigs list and, doesn’t matter what it is, immediately posts it for sale. The asking price is what he is willing to part with it, yet he is happy too keep it if it doesn’t sell . Wait ... I need to check if this is new ride now.

Tons of better options.
Pretty sure low mileage 991.2 Carrera T’s can be had for 85k now.
And there are still dealers with new 718 GTS’s that can be had for under 80k.

Why would you flip a Supra? Anyone who wanted one bought one from the dealer at MSRP.

There are usually better options out anything, especially expensive items. This is possibly a collector item for someone, in which case, price is less of an issue.

This is a meth pipe price. On top of being over 20 years old, it’s also pushing 85k on the odometer.

I also always find these funny because what insurance company is going to insure your car for ~150 % of it’s value, assuming you’d like to not be down $40k on top of no car in the event you total it ? I’m pretty sure they don’t offer GAP coverage for markups.

Yup. A 718 GTS will beat the brakes off that Supra and it’s a manual....AND you can negotiate on price.

Type in 2020 Supra on autotrader you get a list of them priced 30-40 grand over sticker. No Toyota will ever be worth that much sorry. They make junk.

First and foremost, every car manufacturer is removing the manual transmission from the newer vehicles. For me there is something so unique about changing gears and being one with my car. It's a feeling that only about 20 percent of Americans understand. I'll keep my 6 speed 4th generation TL.

Afree a quick google search, plenty of dealers asking for $90k+. Seems a bit ridiculous to mark these cars up $30k+ over MSRP.

I really hope Toyota gives in very very soon and offers the supra in stick. I don't understand the idea of having that type of car in auto, it's mind numbingly boring

I’m pretty sure this is the same color combo that was just on BaT, which notoriously overvalues cars. The Supra didn’t even hit MSRP, ending at $56,700. These cars aren’t worth any premium.

Cearly they don't make "junk", as pretty much any automotive journalist or reliability report will tell you. As for no Toyota ever being worth that much money, have you looked at selli g prices for MK IV Supra lately? Your comment is just silly.

I have never understood people willing to pay a premium for a car. It's just stupid money management. In a year the hype will have died down and all you will have managed to do is take a much bigger depreciation hit than anyone else because the next buyer isn't going to take into account your stupidity at paying a dealer markup. You might as well just use the extra cash to start a bonfire, you're just throwing it away anyway.

This is so stupid. There is nothing special about these cars. Its a mass produced sports car with no limited production numbers . Sure its some particular version but these cars are gonna be running around all over the place like mustangs and corvettes. Ok not that popular but still. It shares a name with a classic but that doesn't mean its valuable now.
