Though he only hung around my patio a few days he was very polite when I came and went, stepping out of my path. Though quiet, his presence scared off most of the finches. Soar through those clouds crow bud.

I was at my parents’ over the weekend and they were overrun by hundreds (if not tho usands of grackles). Just chilling on every available piece of ground or darting through the treetops. A bit ominous really. Apparently they collect in big groups before starting their migration south, so I image they get moving when they feel the right chill.

Massive bird swarms have always made me a little uneasy. Sure a dozen or so land in your yard and it's fine. But when hundreds start moving it starts to feel a little Hitchcock.

Those damn grackles leave a swath of white plaster carnage in their wake.

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
“Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,” I said, “art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore—
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!”
Quoth the Raven “Brandon
.”

RIP Brandon.
Also: that’s a terrible Brandon Lee joke.

Their plaster causes like lung problems. Grackles and starlings are very disliked here.

Unfortunately I was calling him Brandon before he died. He genuinely looked healthy, just a bit quiet and not flying away. I figured he was happy with the shade from the bush and two different kinds of bird seed.

Oh, not the death part. I mean even starting with a "The Crow" reference. The death is just... Well, it's sad.
