Everybody should give this a shot.

For those of us out of the loop, what is “this”?

I suppose that would be helpful.

It’s Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on Netflix. A prequel to Jim Henson’s 1982 film The Dark Crystal.

I think I might recommend watching the series before the movie if you haven’t seen it before.

Thanks. I vaguely remember that I’ve seen the movie, but that was ages ago.

I’ll get back on Netflix eventually, and I’ll be sure to check it out.

How did that go?

I first saw the movie when I was about 4 or 5 and it scared the shit out of me . It was years until I saw it again, but t he Emperor’s face caving in stayed with me for all that time .

Not terrible. I did explain it’s all puppets. They noticed the age immediately, no special effects like they are used to. I had to explain a few things, as some of it went over their head.

She being 8 and him 6, they didn’t get too emotional. Her favorite party was Kuira saving Jen with we wings, and he said he didn’t know, she says well duh, your a boy.

This coming from the dad who bargained the kids being able to stay up late and watch a movie, I got to choose the movie: Old Yeller, All Dogs Go to Heaven, Tobey Tyler.

I can’t wait til i have a chunk of time to watch this. My daughter’s still too young for it, she’s not into much, media-wise (for which I’m thankful), but last week on the way to school we listened to the Stuff You Should Know podcast about the Muppets and Jim Henson. Introducing her to the Muppets will be the first step...

The blend of practical effects and cgi is done incredibly well. Whenever they *could* do it with a puppet they actually do it with a puppet rather than lazy CGI. That said the CGI, where there is some, is damn good at that. It's a genuine call back to the original.

Jim Henson played a ridiculously large part of my childhood.

Watched the first episode, but the characters’ appearance and was in the uncanny valley for me, so I didn’t sympathize with protagonists or their struggle.

There’s still too much adult humor/scary stuff for her, I think, but she keeps repeating PIGS IN SPAAAAAACE thanks to the podcast :)

The history of the movie is interesting. Henson let his associates create most of it and was quite pleased with what they came up with. The Suits didn’t like it so he bought out the production so he could keep control of it. And ended up doing pretty well in the box office.

Show is indeed awesome; My favorite part is the nearly seamless blending of practical SFX w CGI. Storyline is also pretty good and the episodes get you addicted fast, unlike clickbait “articles” that consist of nothing but one sentence paired with a gif, lmmfao.

Deadpool bible says, "Maximum effort!", not minimal!
