For me, it would either be a ‘93 Vette ZR-1 or a 964 Carrera.
One I could actually afford right now? A 40th vette would be cool.
A 40th with ZR1 wheels would actually be nice. Or a 40th ZR1, except those are unobtainanium!

That’d be an easy one for me. Although when I had that kind of money to spend on a car, I got an E90 M3, mainly because I planned on dailying it. Not sure what choice I would make if I knew what I did now.

Since I’m ancient in Internet years, probably an ‘85 Avant II. I really like the subtle updates they did with the integrated bumpers and less chrome. A few minor tweaks and a 20 year old design actually looked pretty current.

Wasn’t a lot of that emissions? I was into them when I was really young (think 5-6) and didn’t understand car stuff yet, more that I thought it looked cool.
I still think it’s awesome that cars came with colors and designs like these from the factory.

Id get a Testarossa in a all of its final year glory for 1996. I already have my second favorite car of that time a 95 530i (currently being turned into a 540i) so the Ferrari is def the best choice. I’ve always loved the styling and I think its a good amount of speed for the street.

Not a ton of great options for 1990. While I appreciate a lot of the Japanese and Euro stuff from that era it’s nothing I’ve really ever aspired to own. Holding true to my user name there’s not a ton of trucks from that year that were all that remarkable either.
I’m gonna go simple and pick the Bronco.
Edit: Didn’t realize the SS 454 was available in ‘90. Gimme Gimme Gimme.

multitude of things:
starting in 1971, the industry moved to SAE Net horsepower ratings. Meaning, how much horsepower the engine makes at the flywheel as installed. Previously, the industry used SAE “gross” hp, which was done on blueprinted engines with open headers, no accessories, open intake w/ velocity stack, and sometimes a little padding of the numbers just because. Net ratings were taken with the full air intake system, standard exhaust manifolds, full exhaust system, and all accessories/belts installed. This alone accounted for a huge drop in advertised power ratings, but they were much more realistic. Chrysler started posting net ratings in 1971, and we saw the “425 hp” 426 Hemi drop down to 350 net hp.
in 1972 the phase in of tighter emissions limits started. Compression ratios dropped and cam profiles got a lot less aggressive. Horsepower numbers dropped another 10-15%.
1975 was when all new cars had to have catalytic converters and run on unleaded gas. Those early catalysts were restrictive and required shit like engine-driven air pumps to work effectively thanks to the imprecise fuel metering of carburetors.
the nice thing about engines like the Pontiac 400 and 455- even from 1976- is that you can uncork a lot of horsepower by a simple cam swap and mild port work. Even on 8.5:1 compression.
horsepower ratings in the muscle car era were unmitigated horseshit. And keep in mind the engines themselves didn’t change, this just shows you how much power they actually made as installed in the vehicle. The Hemi just gets kneecapped by this; it was a NASCAR engine which needed to breathe, and the full exhaust and intake system just choked it. And I can tell you it was well known back then that on the street and drag strip, the 440 6-pack could easily walk a Hemi.

There is nothing super obtainable from 1994 that I truly want, but if I was forced to buy something reasonable from then, it would likely be a Ram 3500 Cummins 4WD with a 5-speed, simply because I could use a truck.
