There's really nothing automotive here to contribute. But I brought him to the swamp by my house, since he was a long ways from any water. Even with three legs he was still pretty fiesty.

If s/he can hunker down somewhere safe, s/he can regenerate the missing leg.
They are quite amazing. If in the early stages of life, they are shocked, etc... they can simply stop growing and remain in the stage they are for life.

I appreciate you cared enough to move him :) That’s not a water salamander though FYI. He would live near water under a large rock or fallen tree.
