I just fired up the discontinued Flight Sim World for a little Big Island to Maui hop. Nice and smooth, with plenty of detail. Now to install X-Plane, P3D and a few others.

Train Sim World also runs quite smoothly, and like FSW, I was getting 45-50 FPS (or more - this TSW shot is showing 74 FPS) with pretty high detail levels. I think I can pretty much wave good bye to any spare time I may have had...

Nice. My son is angling for a full gaming rig. I’ll admit, his laptop is getting pretty old, but he has a Switch and access to and XBOne, so I’m not terribly motivated to get him one.

That’s good, though I still say it’s pretty ridiculous  how little flight sims have advanced since MS sold off FSX. I’m eager to see what the new Microsoft Flight Simulator is like next year (and anticipating that it could bring my system to its knees)

Not just any old 486...a DX-2 66!

I know what you mean. After 13 years, I finally have a system that can run various flight sims at decent speeds, and it’s probably just in time to watch the next few releases make the world seem like 2006 again. At least these days I have more money to throw at the problem.

With a VL-bus caching controller. It’s all about the speed.

(I kind of miss that old system, with the kick-ass NCR case made in W. Germany. ATX just makes things too simple)

ATX is awesome though

at least there’s standards now

Probably. I haven’t run that si m in a long time and forgot what aircraft it has. I'll check later and get back to you.
