My mom, who is old, but I love, consistently turns off overdrive on her Town Car (again, she’s old).

“Why are you turning this off?”

“I don’t need overdrive, I’m not speeding.”

Ah, that explains it! Even my Colorado doesn't have that, but I'm not even sure it has a true overdrive in the first place.

It still exists, just not in name. My fiancée’s Camry lets you switch it into manumatic like it’s a J-Gate, but all it really does when you pull the lever over is downshift from 60th down to 4th so you can pass on the highway without waiting five minutes for it to hunt through gears.

It’s a little upsetting how automatically I switch modes when getting on a highway or passing.

I can personally attest the existence of O/D as late as 2009 on my old Hyundai Accent. 4-speed auto, so disabling O/D made the car into a 3-speed auto.

for GM 4speed autos, if you put the shift selector in [3] it will lock out overdrive.

Heck the 2018 Nissan Sentra I had as a loaner had one. The car has a CVT who knows why it has an O/D botton.
