It starts small, as in back in May i got afew small things to fly witb the kids. B ut shortly in, staged launches and D engine and up is all I want. I’m working on a video cam/altimeter nosecones section and some cluster engine builds now.
A side benefit is a spray paint collection. If it can be called a benefit. It’s a good distraction. Keeps me off the streets. However I did set off a TSA airport machine a few weeks ago. Something about black powder does that.
Over winter I’ll probably build a Level-1 high power qualification machine. Then things get expensive. As if a launch day doesn’t already cost a few packs of engines.

I’m not as bad as you yet, but I built my first one in 10 years 2 months ago to launch with a coworkers kid and remembered how much I loved it.
I’ve got 4 now but have been looking at cluster launch systems and that stuff is cool as hell.

cool - I did that for a while. My dad taught a course at his high school years ago and we had a big multi rocket launch controller that he built and wired . I ended up loosing (usually in trees) or explodifying pretty much all the ones I built. I could never get those multistage ones to work consistently either.

Hobby Lobby is seriously cheaper now. They struck a deal with Estes and now have better prices (specially on engines!! ) and about 8 models not in the catalog. Look at Apogee components for more advanced stuff for cluster things and kits/parts.

Lol. Just keep going till you run outta engines or smash em up too bad. That's the only time I'll spend a few hours building something, watch it destroy itself without a chute, and call it fun.

Awesome. I’ll be starting a rocket unit with my STEM classes in a few weeks. The kids will be messing around with their own rocket designs.

Open Rocket is a free open source rocket cad design tool. Just make sure you put in accurate numbers for tube diameters and thicknesses (found on product shopping sites like Estes or Apogee) works well and relatively accurate from what I've built.

I’ve got a few good hobby shops around me I usually go to. I won’t give hobby lobby any of my money since they believe (and convinced the Supreme Court to agree) that the religious beliefs of a business owner are more important than the reproductive rights of their employees.
