I finished the repair of my shop AC this morning and left it running on the dehumidify setting all day. Both indoor units pulled a lot of water out of the air , but one of them dumped most of its water down my wall.

*Sigh*

The condensate lines for this system are flexible and I guess one of them had a little kink in it where it goes through the wall to the outside. I gave it a little tug from the outside and it straightened out and dumped everything still in the tray that hadn’t gone down the inside of the wall yet. It was nice and cold but not exactly refreshing.

Now that that’s fixed, I’ve got 100% working shop AC, so that’s pretty excellent. I’ll rotate Mrs. Shoe Pilot’s tires this weekend in cool comfort.

Next up, safety upgrades! Eye wash station, safety cans for rags, more  fire extinguishers, and a couple under-hoist stands to make sure a car doesn’t tip backward.

In related news I finally fixed the AC in my Jaguar so it doesn’t dump massive amounts of water in the passenger footwell. It’s amazing how much water an hour’s drive produces.

Oppo is a kink-shame-free zone.

Now it’s just going to have to find some other way to rust

I’m a big believer in not blinding oneself , getting crushed, or dying in a fire.

After the safety improvements arrive and get installed , I’ll be listing on GarageTime. At some point I’ll have to spring for some SAE tools because not everyone will be helped by my extensive collection of metrique. I can carry my ENTIRE selection of SAE wrenches/sockets/etc in a 10 x 8 x 5 (inch) cardboard box. Granted, you only need a pair of 9/16" combo wrenches  to work on a Chevy, but what if someone has a not-a-Chevy?

Better a shop wall than a bedroom ceiling. You can guess how I know.

I have to say, I believe in all those things as well.

They make things that aren't Chevies? That's news to me!

I had a clogged condensate line inside the house a few years ago. Our AC unit is in a closet in the hallway pretty much dead center of the house. It’s just me and Mrs. Shoe Pilot and our house is bigger than we really NEED, but we like the space. Anyway, the hallway doesn’t see foot traffic for its entire length every day.

The clogged condensate line backed up and started dumping water onto the slab. The water slowly soaked into the carpet pad and after what I’m sure was at LEAST a week, I finally noticed because I was walking down the hall barefoot and it felt a little damp and squishy underfoot.

I pulled up carpet and started drying stuff out. The central location made my carpet removal touch all 3 bedrooms and the living room. Our insurance company paid for new carpet in 5 out  of 6 carpeted rooms in the house. We threw additional money at the problem and got wood.

Oh it’s got plenty of rust, I’m not worried.

There are worse things to step in while wearing socks. At least condensate is cool or at room temperature. Try stepping in something warm.
