Today on my eternal project car’s quest, I find a spoiler in the junkyard and put it on my car.
I’ve been meaning to get a spoiler on the Cavalier for awhile now. Today was the day of reckoning, so I saddle up for the junkyard to peruse its fine wares.
While sifting through cars of every flavor, I stumbled upon a Hyundai Accent GT that really caught my eye. I knew they made Elantra GTs, but I guess Accent GTs are a thing. Lucky me.
That Accent GT spoiler had a third LED brakelight integrated that gave me F1 car vibes...plus the car was white like mine is. No painting on my part, thank you fate.
So I take it. Just eyeballing it, the dimensions look like it’ll fit my Cavalier like a glove.
So I give it a quick test fit on a Cavalier carcass that litter the badlands. Looks good to me. I buy it for $28 out the door.
Next I do some crazy things to get the spoiler mounted true. It involves measuring, finding centerlines and making templates.
It doesn’t look like it makes ANY sense, but there’s a method to my madness.
I drill x5 mounting holes and x1 wiring hole. Easy-Peazy.
The 3rd brake light connector from the Hyundai is male and my Cavalier OEM wiring harness connector is also male. Seems like we’re at an impass....until I swap out that Hyundai connector to a female end from my Sunfire GT that lounges in my driveway.
And it’s mounted. I’m happy the way it turned out.
Thanks for reading!

Nice. The Cavalier looks naked without a spoiler. That was one thing I liked about my wife’s. It also saved her wallet once when she left it on the trunk after getting gas.
Did you silicon up the bolt holes? Because they are going to leak.

The nice thing about the spoiler, it has a built in rubber gasket that creates a seal when you mount it...kinda like how a roof mounted antenna is designed.

Oh that is cool. Probably faster to assemble that way at the factory

GT fury with 104 hp, a 2300 lb chassis and a mega short wheelbase. I can see the appeal.

Nice! Gaskets in between the spoiler and the trunk to prevent leaks?

You know it, spoiler has rubber ones built in from the factory to seal the holes from moisture.

Have you don the ‘spray it with a high pressure hose’ test yet? :P
I’ve always liked those spoilers....pretty uncommon part actually, but it looks nice!
Reminds me of my own futile attempts to learn more about the
DAMN MID-SPOILER I’VE BEEN CHASING FOR 5 YEARS...

Wow, that mid-spoiler is like the holy grail! I love the way it...errr accents the Accent. Super cool, and best of luck trying to land these rarities!
