I was originally hoping for a T100 4x4 and an SC400. I also thought I’d have more hair, and less doggo.

How I imagined myself at 21: living my best life in college, a nice car, and a dog
How I am at 21: a caffeine dependent ball of anxiety with a Passat

I just turned 30 last week. My garage is very different to how I thought it would look. In a good way, but still different.

How I imagined my garage would look when I was thirty: I don’t remember...it was too long ago.
I do remember that when i was thirty I didn’t actually have a garage. And I owned a 200TDi Defender 110 2 door hardtop.

You could still have those!
I wasn’t quite sure I’d make it this far.
Just BBQ’d burgers while looking at a five mile view. Life is good. Very good. Lucky and thankful.

You wake up surrounded by love every morning. That makes you blest, my friend.

Today I mowed my law, and then just sat on a wicker couch on my deck, kicked off my flip flops, cracked open a beer and thought “you know being old isn’t so bad.” I’ll be 30 in April. But seriously what I consider a fun afternoon now, is what 19 year old me thought was cruel and unusually punishment.
My cars are about as impressive as I’d thought they’d be. Although if you asked me 10 years ago what I’d be driving now BMW, and VW would not have been the first things out of my mouth. Probably more like Eagle Talon, and Honda Civic.

I didn’t realize we were within a month on age; I’ll be 30 in March.
I wanted an M3 when I was 19, but I never thought I’d get it at 24, let alone an E90 M3.

All I ever wanted was a Stillen 300zx TT. I'm 44 and still waiting.

If I got the story straight of your career, you put the work in at school and now reap the rewards.
I did not. At 24 I was...... a gas station cashier/McDonalds maintenance man.(two jobs is sucks). Now I deliver Pizza, and I love it, as I’ve mentioned. However I’d like to find a reasonable path to making more money as I would like to retire some day, and that seems unlikely while making maybe 30k a year . I still think about going back to school. I just have to figure out a career I can handle. I’ve been thinking about getting some heavy equipment training./certification. Seems like a career path I could enjoy, and also make that M3 money.
Or in my case 135i, and X5 35D money. That’s my current Dream Garage pair.

Pretty much, it hasn’t always been a linear path but it’s worked out.
I was fortunate enough to grow up in a middle class family where college was an expectation . Both and my dad and grandfather have engineering degrees from Ga Tech, so it wasn’t unprecedented for me to go to engineering school. That said, I’m all for education at any point, if you can find something that will help you advance your career , I’d jump on it.
Personally, I’d love a heavily modified 335d.

I didn't think I'd make it past high school, so really, every day is a good day.

The vehicles in your fleet very much seem like lateral moves to me.

The more things I have the more time I’m away from them. More importantly the more time I’m away from the people I love. There is a balance and I’ll know it when I see it, but I’ve become aware of the trend.
Since your also a gluten for strange things. Most of the things you will love will be broken.. in your garage.

I did not imagine my driveway containing a 1961 Ford truck, a Volvo wagon and a Mini.
