I am always aware when I drive the Sunchaser that it is not much safer than my motorcycle.

That’s ugly. And yes, they are dangerous ( some people still struggle to believe this).

Hope everyone makes a full recovery.

This is most of the reason why sub frame connectors, cage and additional bracing are a mandatory part of my mustang build. There are no air bags or driver aids I can fall back on so anything I can do to strengthen the chassis is crucial.

That was a hellcat powered Cuda. Very easy to put in a ditch.

I’ve got two boys eager to get their hands on a 66 Malibu,  I’m less than eager to let them have it (the steering column and braking system were outlawed for 1967)

Especially old cars with modern power, that had a Hellcrate engine  in it.

Alcohol makes old cars even more dangerous. Put a little booze in an old ‘cuda and it’ll drive you right into a ditch.

But what about dying like men? Also you can always just buy an old but safe car. Children in  old stuff does always concern me though, and if I were to have kids I would rethink my preference for shitboxes.

As I put more miles on my cars as part of my j ob , as much as I’d like to do a regular commute in the Fiero, it will crumple in a crash and take me w ith it... The FoST is different and fun enough while also taking a hit  without killing me in the process.

T he only exceptions are old Euro cars,  mostly because they’re often so broken that they aren’t going anywhere soon.

“Kevin lives nearby and cops say he went home ‘ to get medical attention.’ He was eventually treated at a hospital.”

What he did was get home to sober up in case the story evolved and suddenly he would be the alleged driver.

I realized this driving my coworker’s BMW 2002. That thing is made of stunningly thin metal. The A pillars are nothing and certainty only act as trying to trap you in a rollover. The good news is, visibility is top notch. Also the car is fun as shit to drive

Every now and then I get the urge to pick up a beater NA Miata, but I’ll admit I’m terrified of driving it on the  roads around here. Every 3rd car is a lifted truck and the drivers are actively homicidal.

See, I keep debating my new “fun” car. I go between vintage Mustangs, MGB GT, Cougars, etc....or something newer but still inexpensive, 05+ Mustang GT, two door Wrangler, fun hatches, etc. Especially more important as my son would like to enjoy whatever fun car we get, too. Maybe I should skew towards something  newer, it’s hard to do, though. I can’t even get into motorcycles, I’d love one, but my wife in healthcare, yeah....no.

That’s a lot of car.  Wow, looks like a restomodded cuda.  Glad he’s okay.  Surprised they didn’t do a roll bar when they built it.

I’ll be right with you one of these days.  I’ve got three boys of my own.  Not sure how I’m going to go.  I like the idea of the father that had his kid build his first car, that was a great idea, but older is inherently less safe, at least to a certain age.  It’s a dilemma for sure.  But I’m all about a beater for a first car, something I don’t mind pulling the plate on if it gets wrecked.  At least I have 10 years or so, so by then, there should be plenty of old German tanks out there for a song.  Should be fine for a first car.  Plenty of safety structurally, and will teach them how to fix things....
