I leave for my long drive on Friday morning. Visiting friends in North Carolina this weekend and Michigan next weekend, but no specific plans on how I’ll spend my days next week. I have a few ideas, but it’ll depend on whatever I feel like doing a t the time. The trip starts and ends in PA. I hope you get to take your drive soon.

My longass multistate drives are definitely the most memorable stories I have in my life thus far. Sure I've had plenty of other notable vacations but for whatever reason the long drives have way more of an impact on me.

I am actually taking a one night camping trip with the kids and a friend this coming Sunday in NW Arkansas, so I’ll get a 3 hour drive (will get prettier as we go) in the truck and some hiking and some campfire time in.

I’m very thankful that my parents took me on long road trips as a kid and gave me the “bug”. Love passing it down to my kids.

A road trip gives you the time to really soak it in, and to reflect on what you’re planning, what you’re doing, and what you’ve done (on the way home). And if you do it right, it’s relatively peaceful travel compared with flying.

I think my parents ruined road trips for me. I thought they were terrible until I started going on my own. Then I learned that they can actually be fun instead of a nightmare. It helps doing so with money that’s for sure! It just always seemed like a wild ridiculous logistical problem to go on trips as a kid. Now I just pack a small bag, some snacks, and get going. Sure the 4000+ mile trips require a bit of proper planning but I seem to enjoy that part too now. The only difficulty is just having the time to go on a trip. I can fly someplace cool and be back in an extended weekend no problem. A proper road trip needs a week or more so that things aren't rushed. But in the mean time I get my fix with short trips up the coast or into the desert, since there is so much around me in Socal anyways.

Yeah, the time is always the challenge. So thankful that we got to do 2 weeks out west last year. Wish I wasn’t so far from the mountains.

Very cool! Bet it’s beautiful this time of year. Near water or in the hills? I n eed more camping too, that’s something I love dearly but the kids don’t do great yet. O ne of my drives will be up to Laguna Seca for the IMSA weekend, really looking forward to some dirtbag sports car camping :)
