I never would've guessed a year ago that I'd be defending Santino Ferrucci. Apparently this grey (I replied before I took the screenshot) member of the rage-mob thinks I should be ground into dirt for that. Whatever, I'm bored, let's dance son.

I enjoy it sometimes. I've had some genuinely good discussions on there. This won't be one of them, but sometimes it's fun to spar with a troll. The key is to not give a shit what they think or say. I'm pretty good at compartmentalizing it.

I figured out the other day that someone has blocked me on twitter - and I’m a pretty inoffensive person online so that was a little surprising. Checked out their feed and they’re a raging Ferrucci fan so...oops. I’m not starting an argument over the kid here but there are few people in motorsports who irritate me as much as he does.

Here’s the problem with arguing with jack holes like that. You will never ever get him to realize that he is wrong. He can’t recognize that he has lost an argument. Therefore, all you’ve done is give him a forum to spout his stupidity.

In the bigger picture, I see a problem with how “forgiving” we seem to be with really dangerous behavior. Th e fact that Fenati, the motorcycle racer who LITERALLY GRABBED THE BRAKE OF ANOTHER RIDER AT SPEED, is in talks for another ride means I’m not surprised Ferucci has a drive as well. So yes, I am 100% against Ferucci racing at all, but it has as much to do with the current climate as it does with his individual actions which are reprehensible and he does seem to give zero fucks about it since he landed on his feet. A case of “Sorry I got caught, but not sorry for doing it”.
Sorry you got caught in the crossfire and that troll just wants to vent anger due to a lack of power in the real world so they do it anonymously. This is a serious issue though and really, Ferrucc i is a smptom of a bit of an illness going around the racing community. We’ve ground down a lot of the 18-35 age bracket of racers in the search for top drivers as motorsports if the Red Bull camp is any indication...

He was just dropped by RB’s entire program for not being able to be competitive in Super Formula. So, if it’s any consolation, even Evil has standards as they basically are saying “You can be shitty and win, or be a good person and just do well. But you cant both be an awful human being an just an above average driver”.
Why they re-signed him I don’t know.......But that mistake appears to fix itself.

See, we can just have a discussion here. I certainly respect your opinion.
I was not happy when it was announced he was coming to IndyCar, and I fully expected to hate him. I only know the broad strokes of what happened last year. I only read the headlines, because I frankly don’t care about European racing. What I’ve seen from him over here though, is a kid who minds his P’s and Q’s, and has done a very impressive job in the race car. He’s been nothing but respectful to the other drivers, the series as a whole, and the fans. I was not expecting that AT ALL.
I'd still love to hold him down and shave that annoying mop off of his head.

I see the opposite problem in our society. The second anybody screws up publicly in any way, the rage-mob calls for their head. Ferrucci is still a kid. If kids couldn't learn from their mistakes, where would any of us be? No, he hasn't made a flowery apology, but his behavior in IndyCar has been impeccable on and off the track. I fully expected to hate the kid, but I just can't.

Maybe so, but he deliberately rammed into the back of another competitor...sorry, if that had gone worse, he could’ve permanently injured somebody. I don’t care if he’s a kid, he’s old enough as a young adult to know to not deliberately perform an action where somebody else could potentially be injured and millions of dollars in property damaged...

I’d agree with that, and could even agree with Fenati being back in Moto2/Moto3, if they were told to basically go back down and work your way back up. But Fenati got right back on a world championship bike and Ferrucci got a promotion. So what that says to me is it’s better to be headline grabbing by any means necessary than to race fairly and safely.

Agreed. If you’re willing to say he’s too immature to not know better than actions like that, then you’re also saying he’s too immature for that level of competition.

Which is something that countless racers, many of whom are champions who are revered in their sport, have done. Some of them make a frequent habit of it. Ferrucci has done it once. H e was admonished, he (rightfully) lost his ride, and he also lost any opportunity to reach his goal of racing in F1. If he had continued that type of behavior in IndyCar, I’d be first in line in the “ Get this A-hole out of a car” crowd . I was expecting a punk who raced like a bull in a china shop to show up in IndyCar this year, but that’s not what happened. His behavior in IndyCar, on and off the track, has been beyond reproach.

If you permanently parked ever racer who ever intentionally hit another car, more than half of the professional driving ranks throughout racing history would have never been heard from. If he had kept up that behavior, park him. But he hasn’t.

Ferrucci lost his ride and any path to his goal of racing in F1. He now races for no money in a niche sport. Hardly a promotion.

If he had hit his teammate on track during the race, I’d get that. But he didn’t. It was after the race. And don’t forget - he completely ignored all calls to the steward’s office and all disciplinary hearings. Oh and the “texting and driving” offense too.
I’d be with you if it happened in the heat of the moment on track. But I can think of very few, if any, racers in the past two decades who had that little self control to crash out a racer after the race. Say what you will about Indy, it *is* a promotion from F2. If anything, it guarantees him national TV exposure and hookups for other series. He was guaranteed nothing for F1. If anything, he was probably going to fade out into nothingness unless he made a jump to a series like Indy.

In the heat of the race? Does all of your adrenaline instantly go away the second you cross the finish line? If so, you’re a better man than I. Many drivers have gone after other drivers after the race, during a caution period, even on pit lane. Which is all bad, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not on board with the idea that after one offense you’re parked for life in all series of motorsports.
