I was just about to stick some pork chops in the oven when suddenly something down the street went boom and now I’m hungry, have no power, and no way to cook my pork chops.

My neighborhood lost power for several hours on Thanksgiving Day. My gas stove worked fine (and it was just me here anyway) but I saw a lot of delivery cars that evening!

I have a gas stove in the new place however it doesn’t turn on without electricity. I could probably have started it with a lighter but I don’t have a lighter and am not familiar enough with it yet to light it that way without blowing myself up.

Might not have helped, I’ve definitely had at least one gas oven where the gas won’t come on until the igniter is hot.

I wouldn’t have tried either in your position. My house used to be a rental and the owner was too cheap for an electric ignition stove. It’s not cool and vintage (I wish it was) but it has definitely surprised some repair people.

Ever since I bought a functioning grill, I can’t tell you the last time I cooked meat in an oven. Rain, sun, snow, wind, I’m out there cooking chops and breasts.
