6.2l v8 Super Duty ...This is the second one I’ve seen in about 6ish months to have dropped a valve due to vavle spring failure. First one was catastrophic enough to need a long block this one got lucky and for warrenty purposes is getting a new head and piston. Cylinder wall was unscathed!

Came in for an engine LIGHT (P06DD) and thought that the check engine light meant it was time for an oil change. I mean, she wasn’t WRONG.

Story! Guy travel through our state, vehicle shuts off on the highway. So lucky for us to be the closest Hyundai dealer to have it towed to. The engine obviously went kaboom. Hyundai is covering the whole repair. Unfortunately, there is no long block available so I have to build one. 13 hours for the whole job. Lol can’t win them all I guess.

It was a 07, in his defense the car came in 2 weeks ago for an oil change and grinding noise in the rear. Rear end needed new spider gears, so he drained it for our master tech and the master tech told him to leave it up in the air.....2 weeks go by (ford sent the wrong gears 4 times) everyone involved forgot about the oil change. The store owner was the one to start it and drive a few blocks before it shut down. Lots of mistakes from everyone.

We spoke to the spring maker (ie the guy who made the springs that were meant to be fitted originally but were not, because of a stuff-up somewhere) about why this set failed. The head is a Mazda BP05 off an NA8 MX5. He said he found this model head is particularly “dirty” as far as harmonics are concerned. He had done quite of lot of testing to find singles that survived race conditions in it. As an example he said he makes race springs for Toyotas with all the same dimensions and spring rates but, while these springs work well in Toyotas, they shatter quite quickly in BP05s. He tested some unfailed springs from the set and reported they were the right dimensions and spring rate for the application, they were good quality materials but they were the wrong springs for the harmonic characteristics of the head.

We then fitted a new set of his proven formula single springs and promptly broke one in the next race meeting. So we assumed that, for no apparent reason, this head was far dirtier than normal BP05 heads and that only duals would work. That’s why the Supertech light duals and titanium retainers went in. They lasted another 2,000 competition laps before the car was retired.

Basically the recall is for possible oil line leakage, and these banjo bolts are the old ones for those lines. They give you replacement lines, banjo bolts, and crush washers.

They want you to do this, put two old crush washers and the fitting on the end of the oil line, then thread it into the ports to clean the thread (the old washers and fittings act as spacers).

All because these have thread locker on them from the factory.

I saw a truck the other day that had no lettering on it’s passenger side tires, it had been rubbed off from the lady using them as parking sensors. There was also remnants of white and yellow paint in side of the tread.
